Maurice Benard announces his timeline for retiring from General Hospital
The soap vet has portrayed Sonny Corinthos for 30 years and is contemplating his future.

Maurice Benard discusses his GH future
There have been rumors about Maurice Benard leaving General Hospital for the past few years. Fans became concerned when soap vet stated a while back that he wished he could do his Podcast, State of Mind. full-time. Since then, fake news sites randomly report that he is leaving Sonny Corinthos and Port Charles behind, and now there is valid news per Celeb Dirty Laundry.
Benard recently appeared on the “Soapy” YouTube channel, a new podcast hosted by real-life BFFs, Greg Rikaart (Days of Our Lives’s Leo Stark) and Rebecca Budig (The Bold and the Beautiful’s Taylor Hayes).
He added that he is 62 and nearing retirement age so fans are wondering what the fate of hsi character will be. Some viewers thought the heart disease storyline was signaling the end was near, while others believed Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) might end Sonny.
Benard revealed that he might consider retirement in the future and will see where things stand in three years. This lets his followers know that his character is not going anywhere anytime soon. It also has GH viewers discussing whether Sonny will die naturally or be murdered.
Sonny's complicated history in Port Charles
Is Benard decides to leave the ABC soap how will his character exit? Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) has been attempting to run him out of town but recently took a step back from making him pay for hurting her family. Every time it looks like his crimes will be exposed or he will go to prison, the storyline shifts.
Once Benard decides it's time to leave General Hospital, how will the writers handle the situation? Could he possibly end up in jail for the rest of his life? Some fans say they believe that when the decision is made the character will be treated respectfully.
The mob boss murdered Jagger Cates (Adam J Harrington) and Julian Jerome (William deVry) and never paid for his crimes. This is why some fans believe Sidwell or Marco Rios (Adrian Anchondo) might kill Sonny. Others say they don't believe Jenz and his son will be around in three years and that Sonny will probably succumb to health issues.
Presently, Sonny is spending time with ADA Justine Turner (Nazneen Contractor). Most General Hospital viewers believe he is leading her on so she will stop trying to find incriminating evidence against him. If a relationship develops it probably will not go anywhere or Turner could lose her job. She would join other Port Charles females who married or dated Sonny to their own detriment.
Sonny's children remain targets
Carly Spencer's (Laura Wright) son with Sonny Morgan Corinthos ( Bryan Craig) was killed in a car bomb. Alexis Davis's (Nancy Lee Grahan) daughter with the mob boss, Kristina Corinthos Davis (Kate Mansi) was in a fire at Charlie's Pub until Marco saved her.
Ava Jerome (Maua West) is always concerned her daughter Avery Jerome Corinthos ( Ava Scarola) with Sonny is in danger because of her father. Carly's son with AJ Quartermaine (Sean Kanan), Michael Corinthos (Rory Gibson) has been shot and burned in a fire because of his adopted father's enemies.
Sonny's pregnant wife, Lilly Corinthos (Lilly Melgar) and her unborn child died in a car bomb. Donna Corinthos (Scarlett Spears) Sonny's youngest child (with Carly) might be the only one of hsi children not directly affected by his mob ties.
Will there be more victims?
If Maurice Benard does retire in three years, how many additional victims will be harmed or lose their lives during that time? Is it possible that Soony might reform and become a model Port Charles citizen or is that even possible? Keep tuning in to General Hospital amd continue watching for updates related to the soap vet's possible retirement.
