Up against heavy odds, two urban legends turned unlikely heroes find themselves up against a plethora of enemies - yes we said plethora! The dynamic duo of Phil and Floyd must learn to rely not only on their unique skills and instincts, but on one another, if they’re going to survive what’s coming for them!

If there ever was a new comedic dynamic duo this is them right here. Phil and Flyod are best pals despite Phil’s penchant for picking on him and often taking him for granted. This issue solidifies their friendship in ways that are really nice to see. This is actually the perfect introduction of the pair for what could be company’s newest and somewhat greatest new franchise, yes I can see animated features made with these two easily entertaining millions. As it stands we’ve been introduced to the boys and their supporting cast of characters which has actually created a nice tight knit kind of family unit despite the actions of Phil who has been more afraid of being able to start the end of the world prophecy that he’s secretly feared and has fuelled his hormonal rampage sessions.

I like the way that this is being told. The story & plot development that we see through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information is presented extremely well. The character development that we see through the dialogue, the character interaction as well as how they act and react to the situations and circumstances that they encounter has fleshed them out beautifully. The pacing is spot on and as it takes us through the pages revealing more of the story we find ourselves caught up on the fervour of the moment and can’t put the book down.

I am enjoying how we see this being structured and how the layers within the story continue to grow, evolve and strengthen right up to the end of the book. The layers of course contain the characterisation, the plot twists and these fantastic unexpected moments which may or may not work with the main arc but definitely add depth and complexity to the story. How we see everything working together to create the story’s ebb & flow as well as how it moves the story forward is achieved extremely well.

The interiors are absolutely mindbogglingly brilliant to see. The linework is exquisite and how the varying weights and techniques are being utilised to create this level & quality in the detail work is astonishingly well rendered. That we see background utilised as often as we do makes me a happy camper as they enhance the moments and work within the composition of the panels to bring out the depth perception, sense fo scale and the overall sense of size and scope of the story. The creativity and imagination that is on display is rockin it throughout the book. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show a masterful eye for storytelling. The colour work is brilliantly rendered. How we see the various hues and tones within the colours being utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadow work shows a master colourist at work.

The interior artwork steals the show with this series there’s no doubt about that but the writing is surprisingly solid and well throughout out and executed. We get a smartly written story with excellent characterisation alongside some of the more mindbogglingly brilliant interiors you’ll see in comics today. Zenescope has a new hit franchise with this and I cannot wait to see what their next adventure is going to be!
