Love that Flavor
My guilty binge watch pleasure

My tv binge watching guilty pleasure is none other than FLAVOR FLAV!!! Flavor of Love. VH1’s version of the Bachelor. Only way more entertaining. I’m in my 30s, so I was watching when it originally came on, but when I RE-watched it…with all this new wisdom! Oh man, it became a hilariously funny romp of ridiculous.
Not only was Flav pulling in the “girlies” he was also affecting them each in a way that turned beautiful women, into thirsty thirst buckets. When he finished eliminating a woman, he would pour out some champagne for the girl no longer “here” and follow that up with “Now crowd around ya man.” In the smoothest, most self-confident tone you ever heard. The women? They would RUN to his side! I truly got a kick out of that. But, I was here for all of it!
I watched all of Season 3 on Amazon Prime. Unfortunately, the other seasons were unavailable! You know I went to click on the other seasons as soon as I was done with season 3. Because as soon as I got finished watching Flav making the ladies do challenges like creating his brand flagship restaurant, playing his nurse where they had to entertain him in a makeshift hospital room, or creating jokes to roast the other team, I was laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes.
Every episode delivered on visuals with beautiful women, colorful outfits, a wacky mansion where they all lived and lush outdoor scenery. It was one of the first of its kind of reality shows on VH1. It was the King of reality shows back then. And Flav was the man! Previously ridiculed on his looks etc., he made the haters eat dirt when he made his debut as the star of this franchise.
The best part was, I really got to know Flav. Every time a woman touched his face, he would grab their hand and tell them “Yo, I don’t like people touching my face.” I knew we were kindred spirits, because I hate that too Flav!
I learned he loved Reindeer and despises pigs’ feet! These so-called reality “characters” have absolutely nothing on the boy Flav! “Yeeeeeeeeeah Boyyyyyyy!” His famous catch phrases would be uttered every single episode, and several times throughout. Flav is a businessman, who clearly always understood the importance of branding. His brand is extraordinarily strong. His style of dress, hair, the clock around his neck were all his signature. His branding was so out there, that I have yet to see anyone even attempt to emulate Flavor Flav. Simply too much involved!! Hey! I just got an idea for my next year Halloween costume. Yes, it’s only February, but I’ll need more than a year to put the look together.
This show was educational too! It taught me the importance of a strong brand. NOW, not when I first watched it. It also taught me to make sure I have my own individual business and brand elements be so strong, and so me that anyone else would be remiss in attempting to duplicate it.
I literally sat on my bed one day and watched this entire 10-episode series on my laptop. I laughed, had snacks. But most importantly, I got a dose of nostalgia that I didn’t even know I needed. Now, all I have to say is there are many more hours to kill in life, Amazon please make those shows available! I need more watching, on which to BINGE!
