Since the advent of television, creators have produced a wide variety of shows and genres specifically tailored for the small screen. By the 1950s and ‘60s, the Golden Age of TV was clearly dawning, with some of the most memorable shows ever broadcast premiering within a few unforgettable decades of content.

There was something for everyone: Side-splitting comedies, raucous game shows, suspenseful dramas, and more than a few series that completely defied categorization.

In the years that followed, there have been plenty of stellar programs in all categories of entertainment -- but they all owe some of their success to the earlier shows that paved the way.

Unfortunately, many of those classic episodes have been forgotten or even lost to the sands of time. But there’s good news: The Extract TV is offering an increasingly robust collection of the very best from this early era of TV -- and it’s all for free!

Sitcoms

The Dick Van Dyke Show: A timeless comedy starring the inimitable comic Dick Van Dyke and featuring Mary Tyler Moore as married couple Rob and Laura Petrie. Carl Reiner’s writing holds up incredibly well even six decades later and performances by supporting cast -- notably Rose Marie and Morie Amsterdam -- round out an excellent sitcom.

The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet: Like some early sitcoms, this one started on radio but transitioned successfully to television. It featured a real family, the Nelsons -- Ozzie, Harriet, and their two sons, Ricky and David. Humorous situations abound and typically end with a clear moral message for the viewer to take away.

The Lucy Show: Almost everyone knows funnywoman Lucille Ball from her incredible portrayal of Lucy Ricardo on I Love Lucy. She went on to headline some other great series -- including this one. She earned multiple Emmy Awards for her portrayal of Lucille Carmichael -- and the show featured a huge array of guest stars, including some of the biggest celebrities of the day.

The Extract TV also offers an amazing selection of other classic sitcoms, including Mister Ed, The Beverly Hillbillies, Petticoat Junction, Dusty’s Trail, I Married Joan, The Life of Riley, Make Room for Daddy, My Hero, Hot off the Wire, and more!

Dramas

Bonanza: Follow the Cartwright family as they tend to their expansive ranch in Nevada following the Civil War. Ben and his three adult sons get into trouble, help out passing strangers, and continue to endear themselves to generations of loyal fans.

Dragnet: Cop dramas have become so commonplace in American television that many have become indistinguishable from one another. But each one owes some of its success to the grandfather of all TV police shows. Dragnet follows Sgt. Joe Friday and his partners in blue as they track down suspects and bring them in to be charged.

One Step Beyond: A precursor to the legendary Twilight Zone series, this drama features a bold mix of science fiction, horror, and real-life mysteries that were in many ways ahead of their time.

The Extract TV also offers many other dramatic series, such as Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The Invisible Man, Dick Tracy, Tales of Tomorrow, Sherlock Holmes, Flash Gordon, The Rifleman, The Lone Ranger, The Roy Rogers Show, and more!

Game Shows, Variety Shows, Movies, and Other Classics

There’s too much more in The Extract TV’s vault to list it all in just one article. Suffice it to say that if you’re into classic television, you’ll find plenty to love. Here’s a sampling of the free shows you can find: Candid Camera, What’s My Line?, The Jonathan Winters Show, You Bet Your Life, The Price Is Right, The $64,000 Question, The Red Skelton Show, and The Betty White Show.

If you’re in the mood for a feature-length production, tune in any time for films including Little Shop of Horrors, Tarzan’s Revenge, Vampire Over London, The Red House, and more!
