Movie Review: 'Wonder'
Wonder is a real, well, wonder. Rarely do tear-jerkers work as well as what director Stephen Chbosky assembles here. Everything in Wonder seems set to be a clichéd way of sucking out tears. A child with a facial deformity, a pair of goodhearted parents, a sick dog, these are all elements that under the guidance of a lesser director, would be used to physically assault audiences in the search for tears. Stephen Chbosky is, quite thankfully, a terrific director and he employs these elements in the way a good director does.

Character Review: Arthur Dimmesdale of 'The Scarlet Letter'
The Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale's hamartia is his self-inflicted isolation for a sin that was committed in love, not in vain. His guilt turns him into a man not even himself can recognize. A minister is a caring man with a few mysterious tendencies. A noble and pious person, Dimmesdale is first introduced in the novel as a preacher and head of the community, and although he maintains this personality throughout the ill-fated story, he succumbs to his inner demons. Hawthorne portrays Dimmesdale as a man surrounded in a cloak of mystery and pain. The same questions the reader has at the beginning of the novel are the same inquiries one has at the end. Who is Arthur Dimmesdale? Why does he love Hester? How did he succumb to sin? No matter the answer, Arthur Dimmesdale is a person who, despite his flaws, is someone to inspire a passion for righteousness in every reader.

Jim Carrey Makes Me Question Myself
1994 was one hell of year for Jim Carrey. His first three major Hollywood films were all released months apart from each other, with each of them becoming huge hits and launching Carrey into almost instantaneous super stardom - and rightly so. The man's rubber-faced and hyperactive-antics bristled with excitement on screen, and almost everyone was caught in the wave when he made the transition to drama with 'The Truman Show' in 1998. Carrey continued this trend by going full method for 1999's Man on the Moon, a biopic of the late comic Andy Kaufman - an idol of Carrey's, which was directed by Milos Forman. Carrey completely sunk into the mind of Andy and deservedly received praise for his performance even if the film ended his box-office streak...
