King of Monsters Battle Royale
A Quick Trailer Analysis And Theory Into The King of Monsters Showdown.

The trailer starts with Kong in chains on a huge battleship, with voice over by a generic white guy saying "We need Kong, for what's coming". So I'm wondering how they caught Kong, wasn't he supposed to get big as big as a skyscraper, enough to fight Godzilla. Even if Kong did grow to much, how do they expect Kong to beat Godzilla if some humans can capture it. Then we see a native girl that Kong has a connection with. This is a trope that needs to die a cold hard death. Anyways, There is another voice over with a generic white women saying, "Kong and her have a bond and she made a promise to protect her and she feels that Kong will to", awhile showing her alone with Kong on the ship. That is probably the funniest thing, I don't know if they plan to use her as bait for Kong's protection or what but it just sounds dumb to me.

Then we are treated to Godzilla attacking the battleship that harbors the chained monkey. A battle ensues and the military begins to shoot missiles at Godzilla, like that will do anything. Godzilla survived and was actually healed by a nuclear blast so this is pointless. Then cool hip hop that doesn't fit the tone of the film, begins to play as monsters clash with slow motion. I really hope this was just a trailer thing, because slow motion has been completely overused. So then it is revealed that Godzilla is the bad guy, with some clunky dialogue. After Godzilla saved the world twice, he is now the being a bad lizard so the movie can happen. Being provoked or not this is just a easy way to make the monsters fight. Godzilla goes crazy and they send in Kong to "Let them fight".
The trailer ends with Godzilla and Kong facing off with each other. Kong charges holding what looks like a piece of Godzilla scale made into a axe. Kong jumps toward Godzilla and Godzilla shoots its beam only at the axe for no reason, it really doesn't make much sense.

This is a film that should one that focuses on the fun of monsters clashing rather then backstory of why they are fighting. Lets leave the people out of this film as much as possible, no one really cares about the people they are here to see two Kings clash in a epic battle. Who honestly remembers any actor/actress except for Bryan Cranston or Ken Watanabe, because they are good and accomplished actors who were grossly underused for these Godzilla films. Even Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson and Tom Hiddleston weren't really given much to work with and were kind of boring in Kong: Skull Island. The people are mostly there to deliver exposition and provide filler when the film is not focused on the monsters themselves, and they should play more into this with the film.

I have a theory that would make a lot of money. The Kings of Monsters brawling for the first hour and twenty minutes, only to team up against a bigger threat toward the end, maybe King Ghidorah. They did tease that Ghirdorah might return of another film, after one of its heads was recovered by Charles Dance terrorist group in the previous Godzilla film.

So they can do a Battle of the Kings of monsters for awhile, let the monsters rough each other up enough that they are to weak to take on Ghidorah so they team up with each other to defeat a bigger threat, giving fanboys the battle they want while not giving a defined title of king.
Godzilla versus Kong is a Hollywood monster blockbuster film and i hope it stays that way. I am hoping to be entertained in the same way I was when I went to see Pacific Rim in theaters. I love the idea of two monsters battling it out and destroying everything. It brings me back to when I was a sick kid and I ate my chicken noodle soup my mother made and binge watched everything Godzilla and had a blast watching. We need something fun to watch for family movie night while being stuck in our homes. If you haven't seen the trailer you can enjoy it below:
