Jamaal Bryant causes outrage because he attacks Jesus
A preacher undermining the God he issupposed to serve has sent shockwaves through the church community.

This story was written on Medium, but only subscribers can view it. I reshare on Vocal, where everyone can see it. This is about doctrine and not a personal attack.
Jamaal Bryant is the pastor of New Birth Church in Atlanta. He has come under fire for recent comments he made about Jesus from his pulpit. Nonbelievers are expected to question scripture or devalue Christ, but what do we do with a popular charismatic megachurch pastor who continues to say things about the God he claims to have been called by to preach the gospel?
Those who don’t know the Lord say things like Jesus was a good teacher or just a man. They do not accept His divinity as the Son of God. When a preacher, who is well-known and respected, says Jesus was disobedient, this is a serious matter.
Jamal Bryant said 85 percent of Jesus life he was out of order! This went viral and has led to controversy among believers. When I saw the video, I wondered what the purpose of making such a statement was.
The Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth John 14:17) and leads into all truth. (John 16:13). Why would the Comforter that Jesus gives His believers devalue Him? He would not. Therefore, Bryant’s words were his own.
Unfortunately, he did not stop with these misleading words but went on to say that the miracle of turning water into wine was unnecessary and that Jesus “threw down” at the party to let us know we should have fun. He also stated that the Bible does not indicate that Jesus attended the wedding. This implies that he only showed up to party hard and drink wine at the reception.
Jamaal Bryant’s words are not supported by scripture. He is not hearing from the Holy Spirit on these matters and is teaching false doctrine. This is dangerous territory, and so I say, “Dear Jamaal Bryant,” please sit yourself down and stop teaching false doctrine before the Lord sits you down.
Sadly, the church has abused “Touched not the anointed” and “Don’t put your tongue on preachers.” There is a difference in attacking an individual and discerning false doctrine.
I don’t know why Bryant is questioning the actions of Jesus, implying he partied and got drunk when scripture does not indicate this. In Luke 7:34, Jesus said the Pharisees considered him a glutton and a winebibber. No Bible verse says he drank to excess.
Ephesians 5:11–13 tells us to expose the works of darkness. Matthew 7:15tells us “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves”.
Any doctrine that devalues Jesus and questions His actions is a false doctrine. Preachers are supposed to lead sinners to salvation through the gospel. How do unbelievers benefit by hearing that Jesus messed up and partied, and one of His miracles was not necessary?
How are believers edified when a preacher disrespects Christ as if his words and alleged revelation are above the Son of the living God?
Jamaal Bryant chooses to improvise on the life of Jesus to stir up controversy and obtain viral videos, which is a dangerous move. He is misleading millions who follow him, and addressing this is not anyone putting their tongue on the anointing. This is about rightly dividing the word.
Any pastor, evangelist, teacher, apostle, prophet, minister, elder, etc. who is not sold out for Jesus and not preaching the pure, unadulterated word is a danger to the body of Christ.
When preachers begin doing the work of Satan, which is to cast doubt on who Jesus is, we are living in troubling times. Wake up, sleeping church, and stop supporting those whose words don’t lift The Name above every name. Anyone who causes you to second-guess your faith and your Lord and Savior is not hearing from the Holy Spirit.
Consider the words of Paul in I Timothy 6:3-5
If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;
4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,
5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
What Jamaal Bryant is teaching is false doctrine, which brings confusion to believers. Do you really believe the Lord will protect such preachers and chastise those who are exposing the lies?
