Is "burst drummer" an inspirational film? No, it's actually an anti inspirational film

Different from the progressive approach to education in the film "death poetry club", the part about education in the film "burst drummer" is an alternative extreme, and this extreme is often difficult to find a better example as a reference in real life, because when individuals erase all connections with the world and begin to fall into self madness, this so-called highest state, probably, Psychosis is only separated by a layer of window paper. Let's call this extreme "the evolutionary history of genius".

What is the limit of human beings? No one knows, therefore, some people, began to try to choose to break through the limits in various areas, while others, choose to stand aside and watch others break through the limits. Whether it's a participant or a spectator, we can't give an accurate judgment, as in the case of the movie "Exploding Drummer", the director didn't mix subjective attitudes into the story when telling it, he just became a spectator standing on the sidelines, just like the audience.

I think, when Andrew and Fletcher at the end of the film, the most exciting showdown, slowly look back on what they have experienced before, perhaps, each person for how to grow, probably have their own choice.

When the protagonist is integrated into his own fantasy, any outside interference becomes a shameful sin, and time and time again for the self-harsh, even perverted requirements, slowly lose their own at the same time, but also into the fictional world of the spirit.

In this world, only themselves, I would like to call this behavior "exquisite egoist", but I can not bear to disturb their madness. Especially, when Andrew and Fletcher finally smiled at each other when the picture appeared, I already know, selling his soul to Satan in exchange for self-transcendence, has distorted the innocence of the original heart.

Although the flesh is intact, the soul is already crippled

Watching the movie "Exploding Drummer", I did not dare to have the slightest relaxation, because the overall delivery of that gloomy and even depressing atmosphere, and the film's choice of jazz music as the main tone, there is almost no possibility of overlap, perhaps, the director is using this contrast to create an emotional tension for the audience.

Of course, a more important reason is that, as the story progressed, I was constantly worried about Andrew's self-choice, afraid that if I wasn't careful, Andrew would choose to end his life. This concern for the fate of the protagonist depends on the director's control of the pace of the film, and through the rapid editing switch in post, in the blast of music, to complete the story of all the telling.

Andrew's home is full of materials about drumming, and every time he practices alone in the classroom, I think it is more out of the initial interest, besides being able to prove himself. Although, in the eyes of others, music is not a proper business, this preconceived judgment did not make Andrew compromise on this, it was a way to maintain his original intention.

In the middle of them, if they lack the support of the original intention, but only reduced to blind transcendence, then, in the end, will only become a lack of soul of the flesh, or a cold machine, this is the transformation of Andrew after meeting Fletcher. Many people try to figure out the difference between a genius and an ordinary person from Fletcher's almost perverted severity, but what I see is a distorted evolution from a human being to a tool, and masturbation that always stands in the perspective of personal interests.

After Andrew came into contact with Fletcher, his simple love for the drum set began to grow and even evolve into a struggle for fame and fortune, a selfish expansion like Pandora's box, and Fletcher was the one who opened it. Fletcher tries to recreate a top band, so as to complete the transcendence of self-glorification, while Andrew tries to use Fletcher as a springboard to enter Lincoln Center or any top band, to become a core drummer, the starting point of the two, all away from the original purpose of the creation of the art of music.

I think the director felt that the duel between the two was not enough, so the original jazz music with a free soul, became wild and restless. When fame and fortune became the only choice, and love became the original heart behind, I began to understand the horror of Andrew's father when he saw his son's final blow-up performance. The son is still the same son, but the soul is not the same soul, Andrew has become Fletcher, and Fletcher, is the step by step guide Andrew, the soul to Satan's "mentor".

The movie ends with the two men smiling at each other, slowly going into darkness with the drums, which pushes the audience's emotions to an unstoppable climax.

This perfect performance is only the beginning of a tragedy, not just for Andrew, but for society as a whole, because Andrew will inherit Fletcher's ideas, and these ideas will be passed on in the same way, eventually forming a terrible social circle.

Anti-motivation is the core of the movie

When watching this movie, the first quote that pops up, I'm afraid, is that "genius is ninety-nine percent sweat plus one percent inspiration", because of the need to encourage education, we always deliberately ignore the second half of this sentence, that is, "but sometimes, that one percent inspiration than That 99% of the sweat is more important", this is the avoidance mentality at work, always prefer to choose the favorable part to meet their needs, and deliberately avoid the unfavorable part.

Watch the movie "drummer", there is also this avoidance psychology of choice. Andrew's desperate efforts and cheer, Fletcher so strict to the extreme teacher and happy, immersed in the relationship between the enemy-like teacher and disciple can not be extricated, and even, for the end of the perfect performance and clapping, this is the common worship of genius, but, such genius, is really the perfect object of worship?

If you look carefully at the film, in fact, you will see the director's most rigorous irony, for example, in order to feel at ease beyond the limit, choose to break up with his girlfriend, choose to isolate from the outside world; for example, Andrew even after the accident, still with a bleeding body, rushing to the performance site, the pair of hands were almost crushed, still leaving a bright red blood; there is Fletcher for Andrew's frame-up, but completely exposed Fletcher's most The darkest mentality of Fletcher.

Although, the director did not express a clear attitude, but, when the use of these almost out of the life of the plot to create the struggle process, to meet the ordinary people for the fantasy of genius, I think, some kind of discomfort, has been buried in the heart of the audience. Especially, after watching the movie with a clear head, this shuddering discomfort will soon make people detach from the carnival, and then, fall into self-contemplation.

Although, "Exploding Drummer" is only the use of an extreme example of life choices, to provide a possibility, but, the director is not for the life of all the efforts required to deny, he is only challenging the traditional values hidden in people's hearts, the so-called success, pick a bottom, so that people know that instead of superstitious myths of genius, why not seriously live a good life.

Ordinary is not the same as mediocre, genius is not the same as superior, as long as always in the effort to live the best.

The story of "The Exploding Drummer" is indeed very much in line with the title of the movie. Burst, not only refers to the musical burst, but also refers to the impact of ideas, the use of extremes to pierce the extremes, the story as a whole are placed on a full level, so that the audience from beginning to end in a state of emotional tension, and ultimately, to achieve their own independent thinking about life choices.

The beginning and end of the movie echo each other, the rhythmic layers of drums, which coincide with the change of the characters from the beginning to the end, the drums, which also continue to beat the soul of the audience.
