Invented Marvel Characters: Reverb and Galileo

Bringing my original comic characters to life with iPhone apps and zero artistic ability.

Both once researchers funded by Empire State University, the villains called Galileo and Reverb were once scientists focusing on light and sound respectively. Galileo was the lead researcher trying to develop liquid glass to be used for lenses whose shape and magnification levels could be drastically changed. Reverb was his assistant whose expertise in sound waves was initially thought to be the key to manipulating the liquid glass. After hitting a wall using sound waves Galileo started using electricity instead of sound to try to manipulate the lenses. With this change Reverb still acted as Galileo's assistant but to a lesser extent and had freedom to conduct his own sound based research involving nanotech. Removing fuses so they could draw enough power for Galileo's project during the work day and Reverb's research in the evenings they worked somewhat peacefully for months. Yet as time went on the lack of results led to threats of pulled funding and they started working on their respective projects day and night simultaneously. One day the vast amount of electricity used triggered a surge and an explosion lodging nanotechnology into Reverb's skin and knocking Galileo into his liquid glass. After being pulled from the fire by Spider-Man and receiving medical treatment they attempted to return to their research without funding. However they soon shifted their focus to studying their own physiology. Over time Galileo's body went fully translucent and Reverb could generate sound from speaker cone shapes that appear on his body at will. Shortly after they emerged as supervillains robbing for money and scientific equipment.

Now a man of living glass Galileo has a host of superhuman attributes. His glass body is far heavier and tougher than a normal human's making him significantly stronger and more durable than most people his size. He can manipulate his glass body to see great distances, see at a microscopic level and even go nearly invisible. Yet his greatest power is channeling sunlight through his body into powerful solar beams. To make the most of this he wears minimal clothing in combat. Reverb on the other hand wears a black and grey outfit with a blue bullseye logo on the chest representing the pattern on Reverb's skin when generating sound. Aspects of Reverb's boots, gloves, shoulder pads and helmet are reminiscent of speakers and other sound equipment. Reverb mainly attacks with sonic blasts but can also use sound to disorient or impersonate people when he chooses.

In their first outings as villains their dynamic was similar to that of when they were just researchers. At times Galileo was harsh and condescending to Reverb but not so much so that Reverb was unwilling to be subordinate to Galileo. In their first battle with Spider-Man, they were able to overwhelm him and intervention from Daredevil may have saved Spider-Man's life. Reverb and Galileo escaped with the stolen cash but the victory did not last for long. Using a tracer, Spider-Man tracked them down. By webbing over his ears and luring Galileo into a dark building, Spider-Man was able to capture Reverb and Galileo and hand them over to the authorities. After escaping their imprisonment, a drastic change in the dynamic between Reverb and Galileo occurred when then next faced off with Spider-Man. On the verge of defeat, Reverb declared a resentment towards Galileo for the mistreatment he'd been enduring for years. He also declared he knew the frequency it would take to shatter Galileo's glass body. Unwilling to let Galileo die Spider-Man yielded and Reverb fled using Galileo as a hostage. For a time the duo then operated with Reverb as the leader, with Galileo too terrified to disobey him. In a run in with Moon Knight, Reverb tried to use Galileo as hostage again but Moon Knight was unfazed and captured them both swiftly. While being taken away Reverb swore he would escape again and create a criminal empire. He also vowed that it was only a matter of time until he enslaves or kills Galileo.
