I Try To Watch Every Single Netflix Original 2: The Sequel

We all know that Netflix has some really good as well as tons of really bad originals. I've decided to try and watch as many as possible.

Note: I write all of my notes while I am watching the show/movie itself or right afterwards so my notes range from being super short to super long depending on if there were points that I thought were worthy to write about. Here are all of my honest and smart ass opinions on what I’ve seen so far. Some might contain spoilers, I ramble a lot, and I am in no way a writer. Idk man, enjoy!

Sense 8: I went into this show knowing absolutely nothing about it except for the fact that it got good reviews from viewers and that people were devastated when it didn’t get picked up for a third season. The opening scene was really interesting! I was kinda confused the whole time but as the show goes everything starts to make sense. Will looks a little bit like Grant Gustin and you can’t change my mind. He sleeps with a gun on his bedside table which I find a little unsafe but he’s a cop so I’ll let it pass. When Lito yelled, “Diet Coke, please!” when he was in his trailer and then he’s drinking it a few seconds later, I really felt that. Wolfgang took a piss on his father's grave so I’m guessing that they didn’t have a very good relationship. The scenes of all of the characters hearing or seeing what other characters are hearing or seeing from other parts of the world are super cool! Sun had a chicken appear on her desk and that transition was amazing👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Nomi and her girlfriend are the absolute cutest, I love them. The first episode is really good and super interesting, I can definitely see why people love this show so much! All the characters are connected in super interesting ways which are shown through the editing and sound design which I think is an interesting way that the show draws you in. I will definitely be watching the rest of the season! 8/10

Money Heist: there is so much that I could say about this show! I started watching it back in November and BOI DO I LOVE IT. This might actually be my favorite show of all time, it’s just👏🏻that👏🏻good! The writing is absolutely amazing and we just take a moment to appreciate that l cinematography!!!!!! IT'S AMAZING! The character development throughout the season is absolutely fantastic. I have cried at the end of each season and I’m still crying right now as I finish season 4. I would love to go on and on about this show but this is the one show that I don’t want to spoil for anyone else because it’s huge. It’s the best and my number one recommendation. 10/10

Money Heist: The Phenomenon: Hi, my name is Ashley Stys and if it wasn’t already known, I am a film student and I LOVE documentaries. I absolutely loved it. The whole entire cast was interviewed as well as a bunch of the production team!!! We got to see a deep look into some of the scenes and how they were made AND I LOVED IT! If you have not seen season 4 do not watch it because there are a shit ton of spoilers (it does warn you at the beginning). I highly suggest watching it right after finishing season 4. 10/10🖤

High Seas: I started watching this show for the sole purpose of my therapist saying, “don’t watch, it’s really bad”. My therapist and I have really similar tastes in tv and movies so at the end of my secession we talk about what we’re currently watching. MOVING ON!!!! This show is originally in Spanish and is dubbed over in English. Alright, two minutes in and a girl has already been straight up DECKED by a car. As someone who likes to watch shows with subtitles: don’t watch this show with subtitles. Sometimes the translation is a little different. This show went from 0-100 REAL quick. The girl who got smacked by the car is now hiding in a trunk and is being brought onto the ship with the main characters. Did I mention this show takes place on a cruise and is a murder mystery? Well, now you know. At roughly 15 minutes in the murder mystery starts!! The costumes and lighting in this show is amazing, I love it! THINGS ARE GETTING TENSE. I’m stopping here because some things in the first episode are major plot points and spoilers so I am not mentioning all of them. Also there’s a ton happening and I can’t write fast enough😐There’s a bunch of people waving to the boat as it sets off and all I can think of is that one John Mulaney joke about people waving off ships. I got a little bored a few times and the show is a little choppy sometimes but other than that it’s not too bad. 6.5/10

Outer Banks: I started watching this since my twin was CONSTANTLY telling me to. She also wanted me to help settle a debate between her and a friend on who’s better: John B or JJ. I was happy to oblige😁 At 5 minutes I was already on Team John B so it looks like I have to fight my twin for him. Overall, a really good show with some great cinematography! Some parts of the plot were predictable and cliche but I loved it nonetheless. I’m very excited for season 2! I want to marry John B. I don’t want to talk too much about the specifics of the plot because it’ll probably spoil something.... but wtf Rafe.

Few week update: my twin keeps pointing out plot holes and damn, she’s right. I would still watch it though. 7.5/10

Magic for Humans: I’ve actually been watching this show since it first came out and season 3 was just released! This is actually the show where the “tricking someone into thinking they’re invisible prank” that was all around social media a few years back originated! Something that not a lot of people know about me is that I love magic. Like I seriously love magicians and all that stuff, I think it’s one of the coolest things so I obviously loved this show. Justin is an absolutely amazing magician and is so fun to watch. It’s so lighthearted and fun and super cute! Also I love the “magic for Susans” segments😂😁This is the kinda show I would recommend to watch after you’ve rewatched season 8 of Criminal Minds for the fourth time. 7/10

Orange is the New Black: I first tried watching this show about a year and a half ago I believe and I had a hard time getting into it. For the sake of this article I will be watching it again😎 I’m starting where I left off which is episode 6 of season 1. Also I just realized that Donna from That 70’s Show is in this show and I had no idea! I LOVE That 70’s Show so I’m mad at myself for not realizing, anyways, moving on. Can we please talk about the opening title sequence??? SHE'S BEAUTIFUL! I FORGOT HOW MUCH I LOVED IT!! lol I’m 10 seconds in and I’ve already seen a vagina. This is a good show and I don’t know why I didn’t like it last time I tried to watch it. Piper’s mom really do be a bitch and I’ve only seen her for like 5 minutes. One of the officers tried to sneak cocaine in THINGS ARE SPICING UP!!! Oh shit I forgot that one of the officers is seeing one of the inmates!!!! This is an amazing cast and I love the writing. I’m now going to watch the whole series🤪 8/10

Floor is Lava: So a meme and challenge from 2017 becomes a game show in 2020??? Alright Netflix, go off I guess. The “lava” just seems to be water and food coloring. I had zero urge to watch this show so I watched it while packing up my room (I’m moving). The show wasn’t bad but it also wasn’t good. The interviews with the contestants sounded kinda scripted at times. The show is good background noise. I got bored after 2 episodes. 5/10

Ad Vitam: one of my main goals with starting this idea for an article was to start watching shows on Netflix that I had never heard of and this is one of them! I’m going in knowing absolutely nothing about this show except the basic concept that it’s set in the future and humans can live indefinitely because of new technology. Alright, let’s go.

As soon as the show opens we are met with a trigger warning because there is a suicide cult that is a main part of the show. I highly appreciate them having that trigger warning in there before the show even starts. If you struggle with these themes, I don’t recommend watching the show or reading the rest of this section. As someone who deals with depression and has been in a truly awful and dark place at many points in my life, please know that you are loved and there is hope. I will include hotline numbers and websites to visit at the end of the article💜

Let’s continue:

Ooooooooo this show is originally in French and is dubbed over in English!! We open to news anchors all around the world talking about how it’s someone’s 169th birthday and this person is humanity's oldest person! We’re shown the person and DAMN DOES SHE LOOK GOOD FOR 169!!!! She looks like she’s in her 30’s thanks to the technology that can make people live forever. Now we have someone in a wack jellyfish costume...... interesting. Now we’re seeing the jellyfish walk all around town. Can someone tell me who’s wearing the costume already??? Now we have a girl guessing a guys age and I’m guessing that the guy is the main character by the way the camera is angled and the shot. I thought we were following a jellyfish ???? The guy is 119 just so everyone knows. Idk what’s going on. Oh... now there’s a sex scene going on. That wasn’t a weird transition at all. Moving on!! Now the main character is going into the regeneration chamber.... fun!! There be some Avatar shit going on right now. I JUST WANNA KNOW WHO IS IN THE FUCKING JELLYFISH COSTUME!!!! Apparently that’s too much to ask for. THE JELLYFISH JUST FOUND DEAD BODIES FLOATING IN THE OCEAN AND ON SHORE. This is where the suicide cult comes in. At the end of the episode I’m left with few words. Just from episode one I can see that this is a powerful and strong show! Also the music in it is AMAZING! I’m really enjoying it. I never found out who was in the jellyfish costume. There’s a lot of jellyfish in this show. Also, I absolutely love the lighting in the show. Ok. I promise I’m done now😂 6.5/10

Russian Doll: this show stars the actress that plays Nicky from Orange is the New Black so I was pretty happy to start watching this. I was looking for a quick show and funny show to watch on Netflix so I was EXTREMELY happy to find this one considering that the episodes are only 30ish minutes instead of 60. I really wanted to bust a show out all in one night. The first thing I noticed when the show started was the lighting and the color scheme and immediately fell in love. Ok, nerd moment over, for now. So the main character is named Nadia and the show starts at her 36th birthday party 🥳🥳🥳 just found out that her cat is named Oatmeal. I love it. Now she’s leaving her own birthday party to hook up with someone she met there... reminds me of someone I know... moving on. I forgot to mention that the main plot of the show is that Nadia dies and has to relive the day over and over again. Basically it’s a similar plot to Happy Death Day but this show has much better writing and is just better. I’m now waiting for the first death to happen. Her character is amazing. I love her😄 the first death just happened and that shit really came out of nowhere!!! Ok I love this show, it’s amazing. Episode 1 is great and really draws you into the show, I will definitely be watching the rest of the season! 8/10
