How to Ask Questions for Better AI Answers

Smart Questioning Techniques to Unlock the Full Potential of AI

Ask Smarter, Get Better AI Answers 🤖✨

When I ask AI (like ChatGPT or Google Gemini) a question, the first thing I do is make it clear what I want. AI chatbots don't read minds, so vague prompts often get vague answers.

Today I’ll show you how to ask better questions to get better answers from any AI chatbot, so you can start organizing your life, writing more compelling copy, or just have fun going down a research rabbit hole.

Get Specific

Instead of asking How do I improve my writing?, try something more detailed such as:

Give me five tips to improve my college-level English essay writing with clear examples.

That change can make a huge difference in the answer you get, since you’ve now clearly specified the context of your question and what you expect from the output.

Another helpful trick is to add a little background or detail. Think of the AI as an assistant that needs enough information to give you what you want - they need to know the who, what, when, where, and why so that they can do their best to meet your needs.

Instead of asking for birthday party ideas, ask something like this:

I’m planning a birthday party for an 8 year old who loves science. What are some fun party game ideas?

This tells the AI exactly what you need, because without context it might suggest something irrelevant like a math game, or something that doesn’t fit with the science theme or isn’t age appropriate.

By giving context you can steer the AI in the right direction.

If you want a creative answer, try an open-ended prompt instead of yes/no or single-word queries. Start your questions with What are some ways to… or How would you… can invite the AI to examine the topic and give you more detailed answers. And if the answer you get isn’t perfect the first time, ask follow up questions. This could mean including more details on a specific topic, or asking it to explain steps in simpler terms. You can also request a specific tone, or tell it something about yourself and your educational background so it knows more about what your current pool of knowledge is.

Think of your AI chat as a conversation with a back and forth, not just a series of demands.

Try Combining Them

On top of asking good questions, I discovered that using multiple AI models can help too, since each AI has its own strengths. If I ask all of them, I get different perspectives on the same question which means I often get a better overall answer by comparing or combining their responses.

You can either do this manually by opening a different tab for each AI model and asking it the same question, then comparing each answer and editing it into one final answer, or you can use a platform like Vear that allows you to ask the same question to several AI chatbots at once in one place. With Vear you see each answer side by side and can even have one AI combine them into a single response, which means you don’t have to open five separate tabs or pay for separate services (and AI subscriptions can add up - ChatGPT alone costs $20 a month). It's also a big time-saver, and if one AI misses something important, another might catch it.

I stumbled across Vear earlier this year and was sold by how easy it was to use. I say sold but there’s no actual cost for using it, it’s totally free. You start by picking the AI of your choice from a drop down menu, and then you input your question into a chat box just like any other AI tool.

My prompt was I need a plan to organize my workspace: suggest steps and tools I might use. (I ask AI for a lot of organizational tips, so this was a good way for me to gauge how useful the tool actually was).

I chose the most recent versions of GPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, and Claude and let their default model be the combiner. After I hit send I waited a few seconds and got three separate answers, each labeled with the AI name. There was some overlap but for the most part the tips were unique.

On the pros side, I get multiple points of view immediately, which feels like having a mini team of helpers. It saves a ton of time compared to asking each bot individually, and it’s free which is always a plus.

The only con is that you have to sign up after a few free questions, but it just requires an email and password so there was nothing special to do besides that. There’s also no app for it so currently you have to use it on a browser, but it does support mobile browser use.

FAQs

How can I get better answers when I ask AI questions?

The key is to be clear and specific in your question, which means you have to provide enough background or examples so the AI knows exactly what you mean. I recommend using open-ended questions to get detailed answers, and asking follow up questions if you need more information or you want to get a simpler answer.

What is Vear?

Vear is an AI chatbot platform that lets you use any AI model in one site. You can ask one question and see answers from multiple AIs at once, even combine them into one answer. I

Do I need to pay to use Vear?

No, everything on Vear is completely free. If you’re not logged in you might have a chat limit, but creating a free account gives you unlimited access to everything.

Which AI models can I use on Vear?

Vear has GPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek and even DALL E 3 and video AI.

What is multi model on Vear?

In multi-model mode, you select up to four different AI models for your question and Vear then sends your prompt to each one at the same time before combining all four of them using a fifth AI.
