"Halloween Ends" Thoughts.
Was this a good way to end this trilogy?

So it's been a couple of weeks since this movie came out now and the reactions were shocking. Now I would not call this a review, but I had to give my thoughts on this movie and how polarizing it was. I really enjoyed what Davis Gordon Green has done with these movies I wasn't sure what was gonna come of them when I heard he would be making two more after Halloween 2018. I really liked what they all did to this Halloween movie especially. With the franchise coming back from the dead I was excited to see these characters return. I never thought we'd ever see Jaime lee Curtis do another one of these movies again. So seeing her back for these was a real treat. Even though there were some issues I had with "Kills" I still found it entertaining. At the end of the day, it was a good trilogy.
now to Halloween ends specifically, I remember Jaime being asked about this one. She said that it would make people mad and I wondered what she meant. After seeing it though I completely see what she meant and they apparently prepared themselves for the backlash as well. I always went into these movies with open arms ready to take whatever they gave me I didn't want to have certain expectations I wanted to be surprised each time. so hearing that the audience would be upset had me curious. The things I liked the most about this movie, were the time jump, Corey, and the way Laurie was.
Things that other people probably hated, but it worked for this one. Laurie couldn't fight Michael in the last one so the time had to pass for her to heal right? The addition of Corey worked because we got to see someone affected by what Michael Myers has done to the towns folk through him. The way they wrote Laurie this time around made her feel like a whole person this time and not just set out on trying to kill Michael. Michael Myer's disappearance of 4 years could have been explained a little better and this movie is asking a lot of its audience. But they pulled it off. Rohan Campbell Playing such a huge role in this one is what people don't like. At least one of the things they don't like.
But we've seen the back and forth between Laurie and Michael for years and seeing them go in the direction of someone else's experience with him was refreshing. The movie is trying to say that Michael Myers is more than a man, he's what he has done and what he left behind. The tragedies that happened due to his presence became bigger than him. Like Laurie says Evil changes shape, so them trying to show that was interesting.
We got to see a different side to Allyson this go-round as well and she felt whole too. Her taking a quick liking to Corey at first was hard to believe but then I realized she saw something in him that she connected to and was looking for solace. Lindsay didn't get that much to do but it was nice just seeing her there. Same for Frank but I ship him and Laurie, for sure in my mind that happens eventually. My favorite kill in any Halloween movie was in this one with the DJ and it wasn't even Michael who did it! smh. One thing about these movies that never gets mentioned enough is great the cinematography is. This movie has some really good shots and the atmosphere was felt throughout. I loved how scenes would end on a close-up shot of something before going into the next scene.
It was like it never gave us that much time to breathe it kept the tension going. The main reason I liked Halloween ends I touched on it earlier but I want to elaborate a little more is the fact that we never get to spend any time with Michael's victims outside of the characters we know already. Through Corey to an extent, we got to see how the town treats people who go through something tragic and yet are still made to be the bad guy all because of misconceptions. The morale of the town has been ruined by Michael so without him to blame it is Laurie and Corey they blame. That hadn't been touched on that much in these films so that was nice to see. Now with that being said, Michael was sidelined much of this movie and I imagine that was a huge upset to people as well. That might have been the biggest upset of all for fans. A lot of that though has to do with the way the movie was promoted.
We all saw the previews and tv spots and the actual trailer, which didn't really include Corey as the main draw I think if the fans were more informed on how much Corey would be in the film so much it would have been easier to accept maybe I don't know lol. So with that being said, it is understood why some fans didn't like this one. But with all the themes they touched on and the performances and still some good kills this is my favorite of the three honestly. Oh and the fact that we actually got to see Michael die, which we've never seen done in this way was so satisfying.
Now of course that doesn't mean we won't see any more Halloween movies, because there is still the Halloween: Resurrection timeline. Which hasn't made it clear that he's dead .So someone can come along one day and always continue where that one left off. If this is the last one though I'd be fine with that as well.
