You can't turn on your television these days without seeing a reality show of some kind. Reality shows are on every channel, and you can see one any time of the day or night. Reality shows focus on everything imaginable.

If you want to see people dancing, singing, cooking, or displaying other talents, there is a reality show for it.

Reality Television: Definition

Reality shows aren't anything new. They have been around since the early years of television. People began to find out more about reality shows in the early 1990s, Real World, and in the early 2000s with the success of Survivor and Big Brother on CBS.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if God produced a reality show and used all people as His subjects? Well, guess what? God does have His own reality show, and we are all in it. That's because the keyword in “reality” is “real.” God is real. We are real. Therefore, we are actually starring in God's reality shows as we live and move and have our being (Acts 17:28).

America's Got Talent

America's Got Talent is a televised talent competition that has aired on NBC since 2006. It is now in its 20th season. The reality show features participants who perform in singing, dancing, comedy, stunts, magic, and other activities that showcase their talents, with the hope of winning the grand prize.

God gives people natural talents that are different from spiritual gifts that are not for entertainment purposes. Instead, they are meant to edify the body of Christ.

American Idol

American Idol is an American singing competition television series. The concept of the series involves discovering recording stars. America's voting determines the winner of the competition.

I am glad God has another way of choosing those for His family that doesn't involve singing. If so, I would be left out because I can't sing at all. I wrote the class song when I graduated. However, I wasn't allowed to join my class in singing it even though the Bible says, “Make a joyful noise” (Psalm 100:1).

Big Brother

God watches and sees everything we do. However, He provides guidelines to help us achieve the best possible outcome.

Bigger Loser

In God's reality show, there is no loser, big or small. Everyone who follows His commands, loves God, and loves God's people wins.

Celebrity Apprentice

With God, there is no respecter of persons. This means you do not have to be a celebrity to work for God and find favor in God's eyes. God will never say to anyone like Donald Trump, “You're fired.” He says, “Get up and try it again.”

Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance

David danced before the Lord when the ark was returned to God's people. While David's wife, Michal, found fault with him, God approved of David's dance, and his wife remained barren for the rest of her life.

Extreme Makeover

Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17). God is still in the makeover business, and His makeover is extreme.

Fear Factor

God doesn't require us to eat worms or the intestines of animals, but God requires us to be risky enough to follow His word. He tells us hundreds of times, “Fear not for I am with you.”

Jersey Shore

Jesus walked along the Sea of Galilee, teaching, preaching, and giving people a positive image. He was humble and never threw His weight around to get people to notice and obey His instructions.

Married at First Sight

There is no marriage in heaven. However, God ordains marriage for those on earth. On the reality show, couples meet at the altar for the first time and get married then and there. Many of them do not stay married because they are unequally yoked (2 Corinthians 6:14).

Project Runway

Project Runway is an American reality television series that premiered on Bravo on December 1, 2004. The series focuses on fashion design. Contestants compete to create the best clothes within time, materials, and theme restrictions. A panel judges the designs, and one or more designers are typically eliminated from the show each week.

According to Matthew 6:28-30:

"And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you.

The Amazing Race

The Amazing Race is an adventure reality show. Teams of two people race around the world, competing with other two-member teams. They have to complete challenges along the way, which slows them down. They travel by all modes of transportation to reach their destination. The winner is the team that reaches the finish line first. The two people split the grand prize.

Along the way, God's amazing grace will keep us in The Amazing Race.

The Bachelor Franchise

The Bachelor and The Bachelorette are the main series under the Bachelor franchise. There are several other spinoffs. During The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, the lead asks, “Will you accept this rose?”

God hands out more than roses. He gives grace, mercy, compassion, blessings, miracles, and everything else a person needs to live a righteous and enjoyable life. One of His main questions is, “Will you accept my plan of salvation?”

The Real Housewives

The Real Housewives is an American reality television franchise that began on March 21, 2006, with The Real Housewives of Orange County. Since then, there has been a Real Housewives series in major cities. Each installment of the franchise documents the personal and professional lives of a group of affluent women residing in a certain city or geopolitical region. Is that to say housewives in other cities are not real? God doesn't act that way. He treats all housewives with love and provides for all.

The Voice

The Voice is a singing competition show, but it is different from American Idol. It has four celebrities seated in chairs turned backward, so they cannot see the singers. They judge the performers based solely on their voices. They would never choose me, but I am confident God doesn't have the same rule for choosing people to love and provide for.

Top Chef

Top Chef is only one of many cooking shows on television. It premiered on Bravo in March 2006. The show features chefs competing against each other in culinary challenges. The contestants are judged by a panel of professional chefs and other notables from the food and wine industry, with one or more contestants eliminated in each episode. God provides land, sun, rain, and other means of obtaining food. However, He doesn't judge anyone on the way food is cooked.

X-Factor

The X-Factor is simply the grace of God within a person that radiates to others. It is an indescribable gift, but you will know it when you see or hear it. While everyone should have the X- Factor, many fall short. The irony of having the X-Factor is that it is given only by God. When others try to muster it up on their own, they defeat the purpose and are cast aside.

Call to Action

Do you want to star in your own reality show? You don't need to worry. You already do. Furthermore, you star in God's reality show, where He watches every moment of your existence. For those who serve God to the end, they are winners, and their prize is out of this world. Heaven becomes their home for eternal rest.
