General Hospital fans respond toTabyana Ali as Trina

On Friday, March 25, Tabyana Ali made her debut as Trina Robinson on General Hospital. So far viewer comments have been positive about the actress on social media. Fans are saying they miss Sydney Mikayla but her replacement made a good first impression. Several people say everyone should give Ali a chance and one viewer said she missed the sassiness and confidence of Mikayla.

Something to keep in mind is that no two actresses will play a character the same way. Tamara Braun and Sarah Joy Brown each had their own manner in their presentations of Carly Corinthos that was vastly different than the way Laura Wright portrays the character. Ali has only been in one episode and this is why several fans said to give her time to make the role her own.

GH viewers have differing opinions

A large number of people responding across social media agreed that Ali is a good actress but say they hope she will soon display some of the spunkiness, fire, and in your face attitude of her predecessor. One individual expressed concern that Tabyana is too mild-mannered to hold her own with Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl).

Several people said they were waiting to see what type of chemistry Ali has with Chaves and one fan replied "The braids are back" and was called racist. A few individuals criticized Mikayla's acting skills but overall the sentiment was "Welcome Tabyana" and "We miss you Sydney." Viewers should consider that Ali did not have an opportunity to ease into this role and she took over in the midst of what will be one of the worst experiences of Trina's life.

Trina's life is about to implode

Tabyana has begun playing the character at a most crucial time in the storyline and in the midst of several other cast changes. General Hospital viewers have been getting used to Nicholas Chaves as Spencer Cassadine for just under a year and Tanisha Harper recently began portraying Jordan Ashford. There is a lot going on in Port Charles that affects the teen and will change her life going forward.

Trina has cut off Nicholas, dislikes Esme, and feels uneasy around Joslyn Jacks Eden McCoy) and Camero Webber ( Will Lipton). It is believed that Curtis Ashford( Donnell Turner) and not Marcus Taggert (Real' Andrews) is Trina's bio dad and Esme has framed her for the sex tape of Joss and Cam. This is a lot of drama to navigate but the General Hospital execs believe Ali has what it takes.

Tabyana Ali: Her back story

Tabyana was born on January 28, 2002, in San Antonio Texas. The actress began her career at the age of 10 with a role in “Somebody Up There Likes Me” in 2012. She was credited at that time as Tabyana Ford and appeared in “Line of Duty” in 2013 and “New Girl” in 2015. Ali was the voice of Lee Lee in the animated series “Shimmer and Shine” which ran from 2015-2018 on Nickelodeon and from 2018-2019 on Nick Jr. In 2021 she portrayed Regina in “Horror Noire” in 2021.

People have different opinions and are going to disagree. Out of all the comments, I read related to Ali's portrayal of Trina I believe there is one that says it best. One fan who commented said "Tabyana clearly can act. She has a very different vibe from Sydney" That's about the size of it. Best of luck to Tabyana Ali as she settles into her new role and makes the character of Trina Robinson completely her own.
