'Firefly Lane' demonstrates the true meaning of friendship.

Best friends are a gift. Treasure the memories for a lifetime.

Based on the book written by Kristin Hannah, Firefly Lane is a 2021 Netflix series. Tully and Kate have been the best of friends since childhood. Following their coming-of-age story into adulthood, the girls face challenging life lessons.

The premise of Firefly Lane is what drew me into watching the series. Firefly Lane demonstrates the true meaning of friendship. The friendship between Tully and Kate is the highlight of the series, but as a whole, it was not edited thoroughly.

Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke give tremendous performances. Differing in personality, it does not stop them from becoming the best of friends. Tully and Kate have been through it all. No friendship is perfect. Guiding one another through the rocks in the roads, their friendship is essential to all audiences.

Heigl did an amazing job with Tully’s character. Sometimes I was not fond of her behavior or the choices Tully made. Facing difficult hardships, you always have to hold your head high and not let life get to you. I’m sure we can all relate to Kate in some way. Bumbling, clumsy, and awkward I like what Chalke did to her portrayal.

Ali Skovlaye and Roan Curtis deserve high recognition for their commendable portrayals as young Tully and Kate. I was impressed with how well they did at copying personality traits from Heigl and Chalke. I felt like I was actually watching the grown-up versions of these characters. The girl’s friendship stood out. It felt genuine.

Other credits include the talents of Ben Lawson, Yael Yurman, John-Michael Ecker, Beau Garret, Brendan Taylor, Chelah Hordsal, and countless others. The cast worked well together as a whole in their interactions.

Beau Garret deserves a shoutout. Not the best mother, I didn’t realize that she was going to go through a metamorphosis by the end of the series. One moment that she shares with Heigl in a signature scene that I brought out the series as a whole for me.

Firefly Lane has several themes. Some include subjects about friendship, addiction, and coming-of-age. Fair warning, audiences may be triggered by some of the mature elements. Sexual harassment is brought up a couple of times as a theme.

Maggie Friedman created an excellent story with a touching moral. The downfall is that it was not executed well. Upon looking It takes a few episodes to get used to the notorious flashbacks. If it wasn’t for the change in hairstyles to notify different time periods then viewers would totally be lost!

The hair and makeup effects fell through for one character. Trying to indicate that this character is older, the old age makeup looks incredibly unrealistic. It was distracting and made me turn my nose up. The character resembled more of a witch than someone who is supposed to appear older. Makeup artists could have done a better job there.

Still, I enjoyed Firefly Lane. I would go back and watch it again. It is easy to miss certain story details. I noticed that most viewers did not give it a chance because they found the time skips too confusing. My advice is that you give it a chance before deeming it impossible to follow.

I adored the theme of friendship. That and change. Change is possible. Growing up is never an easy part of life. Firefly Lane is emotional in some episodes.

Firefly Lane is a well-acted Netflix series that was enjoyable for its strong friendship. I hope there is a season 2 because, with a cliffhanger like that, we really need answers.
