Okay we have hit Furious 6, and as expected we have seen a wild increase in quality in no small part due to the fact that Paul Walker is a part of them. That said it was definitely still a Fast and Furious movie and I am fully convinced that these are just comic book movies without the comic books. Characters don’t stay dead, our characters perform feats that defy logic and physics, formulaic and repetitive storylines, and an overarching, inescapable theme.
Furious 6 actually has a more coherent and interesting story than the films that come after it. Brian and Mia have a baby, which seems to not affect their lives at all besides the fact that they added a new target for these random villains that they keep finding. The crew finds out that Lettie is alive and that adds some emotion to the story. Though it's a lot funny to me that Dom finds out Lettie is alive immediately after having sex with Elena and then he just doesn’t talk to her again until they get home from this mission…with Lettie. I really need a specific timeline on these movies because the last time Dom and Elena sleep together is at the beginning of this movie (6) in the next one Lettie and Dom are still remembering their lives together and Elena shows no sign of being pregnant and in 8 she pops up with a baby that is clearly almost a year old. So 6 and 7 absolutely have to take place within like 3 months of each other, and 7 and 8 have to have a decent gap between them. The timeline for this child makes about as much sense as the fact that the kid changes full on skin colors in every movie he appears in.
The thing that this movie maintains is the fact that the final fight scene takes entirely too long. This plane is almost trying to take off for like 30 minutes like seriously how long is the runway supposed to be? The pilots also claim that they can’t take off because they are carrying too much weight but apparently when 4 cars attach themselves to the plane it's no problem.
Something my husband and I discussed was the fact that Shaw got thrown out of the plane and Giselle fell like 10 feet off a car and just no one checked to see if they were actually dead. Maybe this is why this crew is so surprised when people come back because they just never confirm whether or not their “family” is actually dead after these fight scenes. Also the fact that Giselle doesn’t come back until the most credit scene in Fast X is just so aggressively stupid. ALSO I need to know how the other Shaw got a hold of Dom’s necklace? I need a very specific timeline for these movies and a separate timeline for the amount of times that this damn necklace has changed hands. I have not once come out of one of these movies without an insane amount of questions. Luckily I have actually seen the first 5 so it's about to get better for me.
Overall it is definitely better then literally all the movies that come after it, and this franchise really did just steadily get worse. We decided that there was absolutely no possible way that we could get through these movies if we were watching them in order. Watching backwards has allowed us to see the quality increase as well as desperately try to piece together the convoluted and at times ridiculous storylines that come with watching this franchise.
