I wrote a small series about media that inspired me, such as music, movies and books. Those lists were pretty exhaustive, however, that isn’t all of the little extras that I have found inspiration from. Here’s that extra list to make sure the other gems don’t fall off into my subconscious cliff, or something.

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Book inspiration extras:

Watchmen: as a teen, I had an online boyfriend that really liked Watchmen. He beseeched me to buy the cool comic and I went to the Fantasy Shop, totally in love with the book store. Anyway, I bought the comic. The two guys that sold me it, said to me, “Make sure you read every page. Don’t skip anything. It all is important.” That stuck with me. I felt cool lol. Also, I like the comic and Rorschach.

The Hobbit: really love this simple book! I read this one again and again. I never get bored! Also, great beginning and storytelling.

Blankets by Craig Thompson: this comic was so endearingly heartbreaking and inspired some parts of my book, I am Bexley. This is about a first love that never was meant to last. Very intimate and very soft, yet there’s a traumatic layer buried deep down in this poignant comic.

Music inspiration extras:

Cigarettes And Chocolate Milk By Rufus Wainwright: one of my top favs I know all the words

Aphex Twin: Avril 14th is my favorite. I love the entire Drukqs album. Just dazzling.

Sister Golden Hair by America: oh how I love this song! My dad introduced me to America and I particularly feel inspired by this one. I also love, “I need you,” and “Lonely People,” and “Ventura Highway.”

Take the long way home by Supertramp: I also love “Breakfast in America,” and “The Logical Song.” Yet another series of nostalgia from my dad’s cassette player in the old truck of my childhood memories.

Trip by Ella Mai : I listen to this a lot. It reminds me of my character Arturo in my book Silent Bites.

Better than I- song from the film Joseph King of Dreams. Beautiful and inspiring

Meet me Halfway: The Black Eyed Peas— reminds me of Arturo once again! Lol

Fiona Apple, Across the Universe: just ear candy that I love

These two because of romance and stuff:

Momma Cass: Make your own kinda music and of course, dream a little dream of me . These are just gems I love to listen to. Def has inspired me in my writing!

This one has heartbreak vibes from my own life: (like losing your bff/muse)

Well I know I put Regina Spektor’s discography in my other list but here’s one of my favorite songs by her:

My Humps cover by Alanis: kinda makes me sad and happy at the same time.

The Box by Roddy Ricch: I listen to this at least once or twice on a long car ride.

Movie extra inspiration:

Punch Drunk Love, Spanglish and The Wedding Singer: these are my 3 absolute favorite Adam Sandler films. The emotional depth Sandler resonates in Punch Drunk Love is astounding. And Wedding Singer is just romantically sweet!

Lost and Delirious: with Piper Perabo— what a devastating and melancholy film. Very inspirational in my teens.

Addams Family Values (and the other ones!): love the dark humor and macabre sense of style here!

Schindler’s List: I think I already put this one down but it really had a big effect on me. I cried so much.

The Coneheads: a nostalgic film from my childhood, also I love the montage with the song “Kodachrome”

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: I love Jim Carrey here. He’s just so open, vulnerable, yet closed off and hurt. A great actor.

The Parent Trap: I like the maid and butler a lot, they are sweet, compassionate and funny. I also find the scene where Hallie meets her mom for the first time, and she looks and touches all her jewelry, brushes and stuff on her desk… it really speaks to me.

Anyway, this probably wraps up my media series. Sometimes, we don’t always choose what gets us to write, create art and find ourselves in our creation. It’s sometimes caused by severe loss, grief, heartbreak. Sometimes, it’s elation and joy. I feel movies, music and books can capture the human experience in magical ways and beautiful ways. I hope you find your magic in your own set of inspiration too!

I've watched a lot of Adam Sandler movies, so I'm very surprised that I've not watched the two that you've mentioned. Also, Parent Trap is one of my favourite movies!

Well we appear to have similar tastes so that means I will have to invest some time to read, listen and watch the unfamiliar ones. Great list
