Media that inspires me, media that helps me write Part three
Books
I like holding onto a real physical book. I love the way it feels in my hands, the smell, and I love how it makes me feel. I remember during reading time in elementary school as I read one of my favorite books I Thought My Soul Would Rise and Fly, I also ate my snack, Oreos. The pages smelled like Oreos too! To this day, anytime I read that book, I think of Oreos. Here’s part three of, Media that inspires me, media that helps me write, and now it’s about books.
The first one of course….
I Thought My Soul Would Rise and Fly: The Diary of Patsy, a Freed Girl by Joyce Hansen: this has insured my success as a character driven writer as well as …
Ella Enchanted: Ella is a character I love. I particularly love how she learned the Ogre’s manipulative way of speaking to turn the tables on them! She’s a warrior and a brilliant character.
Jane Eyre: my all-time most read and well loved book. I love the writing, the characters, everything.
Holes: I liked the old romance story (Kissin’ Kate Barlow and Sam) but it was sad, so tragic.
The Last Time I Saw Paris by Elizabeth Adler: a sweet romance. I love Lara Lewis. I love how she likes Oreos too. And I love the sappy parts.
The Shining: King outdid himself here. Love this book and the creepy vibes!
Dr. Sleep: another King book I enjoyed, a sequel to The Shining, I like Danny’s realistic portrayal
Green Angel Novel by Alice Hoffman: one that hurts my heart! I loved this one as a teen. I still do today! My son liked it too.
Edgar Allan Poe: Anabelle Lee and The Man that was All Used Up… I love all his poetry and stories!! Gothic vibes and scary themes
1984: the Betrayal of Winston and Julia…. Ugh! So hard for me to handle. I hated the end and yelled, throwing it on the floor as a teen. Still impacts me today.
The Catcher in the Rye: this makes me laugh loudly and cry…. I love Holden.
Animal Farm: I always feel bad for Benjamin the donkey. Yeah this one is simple if you just read it as a “fairy tale” obviously it was another warning.
Gathering Blue and The Giver by Lois Lowry: The Giver haunted me all my teen years until I read the sequel (I was excited to know about its existence) and to learn more about my fav character Jonas’ fate. Excellent Dystopian storytelling.
The Glass Castle: a nonfiction book I dearly loved as a teen and I still do. I am so inspired by her enduring spirit even as she dealt with severe poverty, traumas and getting burned because she wanted to boil hotdogs. Also, Half-Broke Horses is another excellent book by the same author.
Naming Nature: The Clash Between Instinct and Science Book by Carol Kaesuk Yoon: this inspired me greatly in the fields of nature, science and helped me discover that I was interested in entomology (bugs)
From the Corner of His Eye by Dean Koontz: stunning thriller story with very deep, complex characters . I also really like False Memory!
Demonology by Rick Moody: I liked all his weird quirky stories!
The Ocean at the End of the Lane Novel by Neil Gaiman: I know that Neil Gaiman turned out to be a real piece of crap. I really hate that because I loved his writings. I loved this book, it inspired me as did his other short stories and I really enjoyed Good Omens, the show & Coraline. But, I’m trying to separate the author’s disgusting actions against his work, so I’m only judging his writing here. However, I don’t support him anymore.
Secrets of Urthis and Bound by Iron and Blood by KD Lumsden: love the queer adventure series she created. Secrets of Urthis was one of this first times in a long time I really got excited to order a physical book.
Bridge to Terabithia: this book broke me! So inspiring and just a beautiful book.
The Somnambulist: really love this dark gothic novel! Some of these characters and their creepy, gritty words still echo in my mind. Inspired a bit for my new book Silent Bites for the brothel scene.

Oh wow, I've not read any of these books 😅😅
Heard the names of a lot of these books and read some. I guess, we love books, to which we relate.
