Media that inspires me, media that helps me write Part two
Music
Here’s part two of what media inspires me to write. I believe that music is one of the most powerful and deeply rooted creations that has helped improve memory, cognitive ability and overall, I feel music has a intensely healing quality that other media does not. Here is a list of music and songs that I find inspiration in and has helped me in many ways. All genres, all types. I have part one here and it’s about TV shows and films. I might have some videos in between the description so you can listen to it.
Music:
Something Stupid: this one trumps a lot of music for inspiring scenes or characters for me to write and Put your head on my shoulder:
Benee/ Supalonely: really love this upbeat song that has depressing lyrics
Gorillaz: I love the Elton John mashup with the Gorillaz, and I literally love all their songs!! The Pink Phantom Is what it’s called.
Glenn Miller: In the Mood, and many others. Dang! So good
Enya Only Time; my aunt was driving me in her car one day and put this song on. Instant calming vibes. Love it
White Flag & Thank you by Dido: really reminds me of lost love in my life and thinking of characters I’m writing
This cover of Where is my Mind?:
Saturn by SZA: so soothing like homemade chicken soup
Beyoncé: “Me, Myself and I” this one rocks out a great message about self reliance
Bjork: her entire Post album is my heart.
PJ Harvey: she’s a gorgeous rock goddess. I love her so much. “Man-size,” “Down by the Water,” “My Beautiful Leah,” “The Mountain,” and so much more, her style of Ariel-Siren-like resonance is highly effective to my mood, mind and heart.
Doechii - DENIAL IS A RIVER: like the ending is so original and feels like a whole damn panic attack
Regina Spektor: every single damn song of hers. I fell in love with her as a teen. She breaks my heart, her songs are stories that I pictured in my mind. She’s a visionary artist that tells stories as she sings heartbreaking, wild tunes.
Paul McCartney and Wings: this band is special to me because my Dad introduced me to this. “The Long and Winding Road,” tears me up. And this one about knocking at the door, lol
Kurt Carr: The Blood Still Has Mircaulous Power. This song had deeper meaning to me from a high school aquaintaince I knew who introduced me to this song. The vocals are so emotional and real. This song touches me deeply. Here is my Patheos story that goes into the history.
Bruises by Chairlift: nostalgic song with my sister Julie 😍🥰
Maybe God Is Tryin’ to Tell You Somethin’ ‧ 1985. This song has so much meaning, it’s so important to me in many ways.
Love (Can Make You Happy) Song by Mercy ‧ 1969: a fond memory of my dad playing this on our old record player and letting me dance on his feet to this song.
The soundtrack to Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid: Yes, My dad also played this on the record player! And we danced to this record all the time. Great songs, great memories.
Beautiful Soup from Alice in Wonderland: I really just love this one.
Blurryface by Twenty one pilots: it’s like nostalgia and modern feelings mixed together
Our House, Song by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young ‧ 1970: Memories of long drives with my dad to go fishing, while listening to this song!
Muse “Space Dementia”: this one is a whirlwind of crazy . I love it
Luther by Kendrick Lamar and SZA: obsessed with this song
I don’t know why I didn’t come: Norah Jones. I really find my deeply melancholy feelings here
The Breeders: all their music has such a distinct 90’s feeling. Perfect summer music
Ofra Haza: gorgeous singer with amazing vocals
Asha Bhosle: I love almost all her music. Great Bollywood sound!
Figure 8 from School House Rock: umm just listen to it. You’ll understand after:
Michael Buble: Haven’t Met You Yet: really love this song! Makes me picture romantic things for characters I write
Chappell Roan: pink pony club: it’s really pretty and inspiring
Yael Naim: her songs, “Paris,” and her cover of Britney Spears “Toxic,” are my favorite
distant shore from Steven Universe: this delves into trauma, abuse and hope
Let You Break My Heart Again - Laufey & Philharmonia Orchestra: this one twists my heart and insides and hurts like heck :
Stephanie Beatriz - Waiting On A Miracle (From "Encanto"): I know all the words. It speaks to me about individual identity, self-love and just I love the song overall
Can’t Sleep Love - Pentatonix: in my meme phase and into fan couples for several shows I was crazy about
This cover of So This is Love:
Between The Bars Song by Madeleine Peyroux ‧ 2004: this song has been my emotional security blanket through some of my most difficult times in life.
Once Upon a December - Journey to the past from Anastasia: so nostalgic !!
System of a Down: Toxicity is one of my favs, but I like a lot of their music, gets me in a gritty mood to write gritty things
Nina Simone: her earthy, sultry vocals give me a huge inspiration! She’s a powerhouse in goddess level badassery
Billie Holiday: she is unmatched. A visionary in bold and unapologetic lyrics.
Mario Lanza: love these romantic songs in operatic form!! I was Inspired by the movie Heavenly Creatures by Peter Jackson, Lanza’s music is like my soul .
Mean by Taylor Swift: I like her country music only, this one is good
Skeeter Davis, The end of the world: I remember this from the movie Girl, Interrupted. Scene haunted me. Love this song:
Beach Boys, I love almost all their songs. Reminds me of my mom, great memories, vacay vibes
Tu Mira: the feeling of broken hearts and stolen looks
Charlottes Web: Mother Earth and Father Time, nostalgia and depression and beauty in song form
To be honest, some of these songs bring back painful memories, deep melancholy and just a longing for past things, people and feelings. Music really is my biggest inspiration in my writing and in my heart. I don’t think I can actually post every single artist and song that I love, obviously, but this list is pretty much most of it!I hope you get inspired from something on my list!
