Every Returning Marvel Character In Daredevil: Born Again

All of the Marvel characters that are back in Daredevil: Born Again

Many of the eagerly awaited characters from the first Netflix Defenders series will make their debut appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Daredevil: Born Again. Daredevil: Born Again's debut trailer has been released, revealing some delicious tidbits about the newest Disney+ series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Expectations for Daredevil and his associated cast to formally return to the MCU were high ever since Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin made a comeback to the small screen in Hawkeye. With the return of some much anticipated familiar names, Daredevil: Born Again is poised to accomplish just that.

Initially, it was unclear whether Vincent D'Onofrio and Charlie Cox were portraying the same specific supervillain from the previous season or if Kingpin and Daredevil's appearances were just an homage to the Netflix universe using the same actors. Nonetheless, Kingpin's memories were made public by Echo's dramatic ending, guaranteeing that the Netflix series' events are now part of the MCU canon. In light of the significant creative change announced for Daredevil: Born Again in 2023, it will be interesting to watch how the confirmed returning characters in the trailer are transformed.

Benjamin Poindexter/Bullseye

Even though Bullseye is a common Daredevil enemy from the comics, he doesn't actually arrive until the final season of Netflix's Daredevil, and even then, he doesn't fully embody the moniker until the very end. For a while, Kingpin used Benjamin Poindexter to pose as Daredevil, damaging the character's reputation by carrying out a string of killings while wearing his outfit. Poindexter was rewarded with a broken spine for threatening Vanessa, which led to an experimental operation that apparently improved his vision and laced his bones with steel.

Poindexter is finally ready to take on the role of Bullseye, as he does in the comics, thanks to his newfound abilities. In a quick glimpse of the teaser, Poindexter is shown wearing a prison uniform with a sinister expression on his face, albeit his outfit is yet unknown. Hopefully, Daredevil will finally get the opportunity to face his well-known, costumed, sniper villain on the small screen in Daredevil: Born Again.

Vanessa Fisk

Being able to use her delicate touch to expose Wilson Fisk's sensitive side makes Vanessa one of the only characters in the Daredevil series with some degree of control over him. Earlier in the episode, Kingpin was motivated by Vanessa's safety and approval, and she married the crime lord at the end of the third season, only for their wedding to end in tragedy. Oddly, despite Vanessa's significance to the plot, Fisk made no mention of her in any of his later MCU appearances in Hawkeye or Echo.

Thanks to the teaser for Daredevil: Born Again, Vanessa has finally made a reappearance. She is obviously enjoying her husband's newfound prominence as she shares a toast at a posh restaurant next to a painting that is similar to the fatal piece of art that brought them together. The teaser has revealed that Ayelet Zurer would return to her role as Vanessa from the Netflix continuity, despite early rumors that the character would be recast with actress Sandrine Holt. It will be intriguing to observe how Kingpin's new political scheming is impacted by Vanessa.

Frank Castle/The Punisher

In addition to Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin and Charlie Cox's Daredevil, Netflix's Daredevil also included Jon Bernthal's Punisher, two more amazing comic book character performances. Frank Castle was a former soldier who became a deadly vigilante determined to clean up the streets of New York City after his family was killed in a vicious shooting in Central Park that was planned by crooks. Wearing the iconic white skull, Frank Castle took on the persona of The Punisher and faced Daredevil on multiple occasions as both an ally and an adversary.

Frank Castle, who stars in his own spin-off series, The Punisher, concluded his solo career by accepting his new persona as the Punisher and realizing that he was no longer merely seeking revenge on his family. After turning down a CIA job offer, The Punisher appears to have gone entirely insane, murdering criminals in New York. The longer-haired man is shown throwing a hatchet at Matt in the Daredevil: Born Again teaser, but he stops when Matt recognizes him. Frank will fit right in because of the trailer's guarantee of the series' brutal action.

Foggy Nelson

Foggy, the "Nelson" of Nelson, Murdock, and Page, and Matt Murdock's closest friend In the original series, Nelson, a civilian character, played a significant role in Daredevil's development. Foggy is initially ignorant of his best friend's abilities and vigilante actions, but he gradually learns of the risks Matt poses to himself and his loved ones, which causes a major rift in their friendship. Although some Daredevil watchers found his witty repartee and incessant whining annoying at times, Foggy is a fantastic perspective character who offers an outside look at Matt Murdock's existence.

Similar to Karen, Foggy had a comparatively happy ending in Daredevil on Netflix, starting a new law firm with his two closest pals. But in the most recent Daredevil: Born Again trailer, Foggy is curiously missing, showing up only in a fleeting glimpse of the core three walking together. Fans have conjectured that Matt's reference to "a line was crossed" in response to Kingpin's question about why he ceased his vigilante actions is a reference to Foggy's passing. In the final version, Foggy will at least have some screen time, but possibly limited to flashbacks.

Karen Page

Early on in the series, Foggy and Matt's new law company is centered around Karen Page, Daredevil's first love interest and confidante in the original Netflix Daredevil series. The three of them eventually develop a type of love triangle as a result of their professional and personal friendship, with Foggy and Matt competing for Karen's affections at separate times. In addition to managing Foggy and Matt's business, Karen eventually works in the courtroom as a lawyer for Frank Castle. Karen has survived several terrifying attempts to kidnap her by Daredevil's numerous adversaries.

After becoming the victim of several assassination attempts, Karen was last seen forming the legal firm Nelson, Murdock and Page with her two closest friends. However, Karen appears in a single solemn image looking serious at the back end of a courtroom, suggesting that Daredevil and Karen may not get along moving into Daredevil: Born Again. In addition to whatever terrifying events the Marvel Cinematic Universe has in store for Jessica, it will be intriguing to watch her response, if any, to Daredevil's romance with She-Hulk.

Wilson Fisk/Kingpin

It's difficult to predict if the Netflix continuity would have ever entered the actual Marvel Cinematic Universe if it weren't for Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin. The man known as Kingpin, Daredevil's archenemy in the comics, films, and television series, is a formidable criminal who uses both pure and dirty power to further his objective of keeping the city under control. Daredevil and Kingpin's relationship has evolved from the impersonal opposing sides of ethical and legal disputes to enmity for very personal reasons during the course of their war in the Netflix universe.

But after being incorporated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Wilson Fisk has had to battle with other heroes besides Daredevil. Following his escape from prison during the Blip, Kingpin took up weapons against Kate Bishop and her mother, fighting the former personally in a one-on-one battle. He then confronts Maya Lopez, his former confidante and minion, when she transforms into the hero Echo. Fisk was emotionally destroyed when Maya used her new abilities to make him relive his darkest, most painful experiences.

This walk down memory lane also served as the initial confirmation that the Netflix series were officially part of the MCU canon. After an opportune news report informs him that there is no obvious front-runner in the New York City mayoral campaign, Fisk ends Echo by figuring out how to gain legal power. The most recent trailer for Daredevil: Born Again suggests that Kingpin's attempt to become mayor was successful, presenting his former adversary with a new, high-ranking post. Given Fisk's history, it's likely that his violent tendencies will eventually overcome him.

Matt Murdock/Daredevil

The upcoming series will undoubtedly feature Charlie Cox's acclaimed portrayal of the blind crime-fighting lawyer, Matt Murdock, also known as Daredevil, as the main character. After Ben Affleck's poorly regarded Daredevil in 2003, the British actor was the second to play Matt Murdock in a live-action film. Cox swiftly gained popularity as a superhero actor because of his charm, amazing athleticism, and capacity to handle the ups and downs of Murdock's damaged mental state. Charlie Cox has received well-earned praise for his realistic portrayal of blindness.

After providing Peter Parker with legal counsel following the public revelation of his secret identity, Cox made his first appearance as the character in Spider-Man: No Way Home, when he catches an errant brick hurled through Parker's window. After that, Daredevil made a longer appearance in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, traveling to Los Angeles in his yellow suit and falling in love with a fellow lawyer who also doubles as a superhero. In a fierce battle scene with Maya Lopez, Echo also made Daredevil's second, brief cameo in the MCU.

His scene in that series takes place during the Blip in 2018, hence even if Echo was his most recent appearance chronologically, his attendance at the Banner family cookout in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is his most recent canonical appearance. It will be intriguing to observe how Daredevil: Born Again shifts the series' more whimsical conclusion to the gloomy tone for which Daredevil is renowned. After all, Daredevil has experienced a lot in the Netflix series, including the murder of his former romantic partner and a building literally collapsing on him.
