Eric Braeden celebrates 42 years on The Young and the Restless

Eric Braeden has portrayed Victor Newman on The Young and the Restless for 42 years since January 1980. The iconic actor paid a visit to the CBS daytime show The Talk on Friday, February 4th, were he was celebrated for his accomplishments He was greeted by a standing ovation from the audience as the Y&R theme song played in the background.

Sheryl Underwood said the actor had one of the sexiest voices as she discussed the days when boys and girls used to spend long amounts of time talking on the telephone when they were in love. Underwood was emphasizing how teens used to fall in love with a voice on the phone and added that Braeden had one of those voices you fell in love with.

The Talk co-hosts are in awe of Braeden

Underwood also asked the actor if he was born with his strong presence that commanded a room when he entered or if he acquired it? Braeden who seemed reserved and almost at a loss for words said he was not sure and that he guesses it's something he was born with.

Co-host Akbar Gbajabiamila referred to Braeden's Y&R character as an OG (Original Gangster) and said the actor had been in his craft since long before Gbajabiamila was born in 1979. At the end of the episode, the hosts honored the actor with a cake that celebrated his 42 years on the CBS soap.

Braeden's current Y&R situation

When Braeden observed his 40-year milestone in 2020 The Young and the Restless dedicated several episodes to his character Victor Newman. There has been no announcement that anything special will be done on-screen to acknowledge the 42-year milestone. The CBS soap recently dedicated a week of episodes to Christian LeBlanc who just observed his third decade As Michael Baldwin on the show.

Braden has said that he will not retire because when you retire you die. A number of fans, however, have been saying across social media that they are c0oncerned because Victor has been seated n many of his scenes during the past year. Viewers should keep in mind that the man who portrays the Newman patriarch will be 81 on his birthday in April. While Breaden seems to be in good health it's only natural that his character will slow down somewhat.

Some fans have been saying they hope Victor and Nikki can settle down and perhaps go on a world cruise but this is not in keeping with what Baraende has in mind. The writers have the final authority and for 42 years they have kept Victor front and center except when Braeden went on vacation.

Victor is still the master manipulator

Victor continues to be a smooth operator and a master manipulator. He is presently trying to figure out what is going on with his son-in-law Ashland Locke (Richard Burgi) and is sending Michael to Peru to investigate the clinic where Locke is supposed to have received a miracle cure for cancer. Fans are hoping Michael can find evidence to prove that Ashland was never dying and Victor can stop whatever plot his son-in-law is hatching against the Newmans.

Victor also continues pitting his children against one another and currently, it is Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) and Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) who are fighting each other as they vie for the love of their father. Congratulations to Eric Braeden on 42 years as the most powerful man in Genoa City. Loyal followers are looking forward to what comes next for "The Mustache" and his family.
