I definitely watched more than my normal amount of Netflix films this year and honestly that is because streaming services have really stepped up the amount of original content that they put out. And I feel it is my job as a film journalist to keep a good pulse on the quality of said content so that I can direct people accordingly. I will say that both Netflix and Prime Video seem to be putting a lot of time and effort into romantic comedies. But we have explored a few other genres as well. There have also been a lot of horror/thriller films. Today we are tackling Netflix’s Don’t Move. A film that based on the premise I can’t believe that got an hour and a half out of, let’s see how.
She is approaching this forward all sad like, like she knows something bad is going to happen. Or something bad has already happened. Oh something bad definitely already happened. Is that her son or her brother? Some little boy died.
She is clearly thinking about jumping off of this cliff of rocks, but is interrupted by this random ass man. He’s creepy. I don’t like him. Ah it was her son, yeah I’d yeet myself off some rocks too.
There was this whole ass open lot and he parks weirdly close to her, I knew he was a fucking creep. Yeah…he tazes her and ties her up in the back of his van.
So…he targets people that want to kill themselves, convinces them not to kill themselves and then captures them, supposedly to kill them. Alright. She gets kidnapped and paralyzed pretty quickly so I’m really not sure what the rest of this movie is supposed to be.
The ants crawling all over her face is so not okay, I would literally rather get murdered.
You stupid old man, just call 9-1-1, how dumb are you?
Yo girl I don’t think being burned alive is any worse then whatever hes gonna do to you, why are we trying to alert him to your presence?
He is a FATHER? That’s a lot insane. That is now two movies this year where the dads are complete sociopaths.
We know I love a lack of dialogue as long as the story is good and the actors are amazing, I think it really elevates a lot of scripts. This one is a little hit or miss right now. There is decent building of tension as she is slowly able to move more and more. Then we have the added time clock of his family coming up. But there is very little story here.
Very final girl of her, stabbing in the neck and then shooting him a few times. I could have done without the last 10 minutes. I think movies need to re-learn the art of truly iconic final shots. Her laying in the boat and regaining feeling in her limbs would have been a perfect ending but it just had to keep going.
The main problem with films like this is that they are by nature extremely repetitive. Oh no, get captured, run away, almost get away, just kidding, recaptured, rinse and repeat. The family part of it seemed unnecessary and it really didn’t add anything to the story. If you are going to include something that isn’t in the resolution then you really need to make it a bigger deal throughout the film. As far as Netflix movies go, I suppose it wasn’t terrible but overall I don’t think it gets more than a 6/10.
