Doctor Who (Series 2): RANKED

From Worst to Best the second series of Doctor Who (2005)

By Cronan ParryPublished 4 years ago 4 min read

I hope you enjoy my Series 2 ranking! There's plenty more Doctor Who content on the way so keep your eye out for that!

14th: 'Rise of the Cybermen' (S2 E5)

IMDb Rating: 7.7/10 (6,284 votes)

My Rating: 5.55/10

The Cybermen just do not doit for me. This is what I'm learning from my rewatch. Also, as it's a parallel universe the stakes just feel lessened because we shouldn't be here and we're definitely bailing.

13th: 'Fear Her' (S2 E11)

IMDb Rating: 5.9/10 (6,656 votes)

My Rating: 6.225/10

If this episode was 20 minutes long it would be much better. There's just not enough story to fill an entire episode. I do like the characters and the concept though.

12th: 'New Earth' (S2 E1)

IMDb Rating: 7.4/10 (6,589 votes)

My Rating: 6.6/10

Having 'David Tennant' and ' Billie Piper' swap between their characters and Cassandra is a lot of fun and I do like New Earth as a recurring place. The Face of Boe isa such a mysterious lil ho I love him. But, overall it's a bit meh, I'm not sure exactly why it just doesn't quite hit.

11th: 'The Age of Steel' (S2 E6)

IMDb Rating: 7.9/10 (6,215 votes)

My Rating: 6.625/10

This one is better than the first part of it's Cyberman double but I still don't care about Cybermen.

10th: 'Love and Monsters' (S2 E10)

IMDb Rating: 6.2/10 (7,492 votes)

My Rating: 6.65/10

I remember when I was young hating this episode. I don't like Peter Kay all that much and The Doctor isn't even in it really. But upon my adulthood rewatch it's actually not so bad. I like the documentary idea and 'Marc Warren' is great. Still just alright overall though.

9th: 'The Idiots Lantern' (S2 E7)

IMDb Rating: 6.7/10 (6,403 votes)

My Rating: 6.85/10

We love to see a dickish man get knocked down a peg in his own estimations.

8th: 'The Christmas Invasion' (S2 E0)

IMDb Rating: 8.0/10 (7,049 votes)

My Rating: 7.6/10

Aside from it being a little bit, the wrong kind of, corny. It is pretty good. Love to see Harriet Jones back. It's a pretty good first outing from 'Tennant'. It definitely isn't the greatest but are any of the Christmas episodes really?

7th: 'Tooth and Claw' (S2 E2)

IMDb Rating: 7.7/10 (6,688 votes)

My Rating: 7.65/10

Werewolves? A plot to kill the Queen of England? Bad Wolf callbacks? Mysteries and spooks? Sign me the fuck up. All I want from basically every show is spooky campy mysteries a la Scoobert Doobert Shindigs.

6th: 'School Reunion' (S2 E3)

IMDb Rating: 8.2/10 (7,118 votes)

My Rating: 8.05/10

I have never watched OG Doccy Who but 'David Tennant' sells the everliving Time Vortex of emotions in a single look every time it's required: Sarah Jane Smith is back and I care even though I don't have a clue who she is. Or I didn't when I was 10. Rose is a little bit annoying, she gets so immediately jealous all the time. But the discussions about being left behind by the doctor and The Doctor's temptations being slapped back by Queen Sarah Jane are all great.

5th: 'The Satan Pit' (S2 E9)

IMDb Rating: 8.7/10 (7,392 votes)

My Rating: 8.375/10

Why are you telling me The Devil is real? I don't need this right now or ever, thank you, goodbye.

4th: 'Army of Ghosts" (S2 E12)

IMDb Rating: 8.5/10 (6,531 votes)

My Rating: 8.4/10

I get it, losing all your emotions and flesh is an obviously terrifying idea, but watching soulless metal things wander around isn't exactly captivating. Save the Cybermen for the end reveal of Part 1 and then throw some Daleks on top of 'em in Part 2. Adeola wanna roll with a void crossing cyborg race that makes communism look bad.

3rd: 'The Girl in the Fireplace' (S2 E4)

IMDb Rating: 9.3/10 (10,902 votes)

My Rating: 9.375/10

Just a bit scared, yeah. Just a little tiny bit. ‘Cause you see, if this clock’s broken—and it’s the only clock in the room… {the ticking gets louder.} Then what’s that?

No thank you honey boo. Moffat's back on his one incredible story a season game. It's like Davies tosses him a ball and he hits that fluffy spherical of opportunity straight into your wibbly-wobbly nightmares where it ricochets around until it's battered your heart into submission. Start to finish incredible. The premise, the script, the story, the execution. I really enjoy that we know why they picked Madame de Pompadour as the necessary spare part but The Doctor and companions still don't know.

2nd: 'The Impossible Planet' (S2 E10)

IMDb Rating: 8.6/10 (7,185 votes)

My Rating: 9.5/10

Are you out of your mind? Who said this was okay to air, let alone film. I cannot begin to explain how spiritually unacceptable it is for the show that makes ghosts, werewolves and the such like into aliens and not really the monster we know it as to be like hey looky here it's the ACTUAL DEVIL. The Ood are terrifying. The computer is terrifying. The Devil is terrifying. Please stop I can't breathe. Why in all the many potential timelines, choices and universes did that squirmy translator turn around to look at a whispering voice behind him saying 'you bout to die if you look at me' (quote unreliable). Silly Boy. I'll be right back for first place just need to have a quick cry because I've spooked myself all over again just thinking about it.

1st: 'Doomsday' (S2 E13)

IMDb Rating: 9.3/10 (8,844 votes)

My Rating: 9.6/10

Oh why, will the tears never end? I'm no longer scared I'm just distraught. Sure Rose can be annoying with her jealousy but did we really need to lock her in a parallel universe and end it like that? It's absolutely wild that one of the saddest quotes in the whole show is just a character's name.

Rose Tyler...

Very much enjoy this instalment of Dalek lore. They're like Space cockroaches but the cockroaches worked out you keep calling them cocks and the whole thing took a hateful potentially misunderstood turn.

Thank You For Reading!

Thank you for getting this far! I hope you enjoyed your time here. Keep checking back for the rest of the seasons over the coming week or two.
