“Dear Readers”

For the Love of the Bridgerton Series

By Kayla T. Published 5 years ago 3 min read

“All is fair in love and war”. As I sit amongst my sofa and allow my mind to vanish and disappear in the television, I indeed not only find myself so deeply in tune, but everything around me no longer exist and I became one with the dear Bridgerton series. A burning fire overcame my flesh as I witness the passion between the Duke and the leading lady, Daphne Bridgerton. While I escape from my society and enter into theirs, only one can imagine the pressure of women being held to such high standards of beauty, class and grace.

The upmost eligible women of the season must find a husband and become married, for it is the honorable duty of a woman. These women must make haste darling! So here I am, in my imaginary time machine back to London in the 1800s and pictured what it means to be a woman- I’m sorry, a black woman during this time. But the most striking thing yet in this series that gave our harsh reality a fairytale twist, is the amount of diversity, yes! the representation of people of color. From the lightest shades of brown to the deepest color of melanin, this binge worthy drama did not discriminate against color and class- and that indeed, caught my attention. To know that a woman that look like me can be seen as an equal to a white woman, on my TV screen. Such an enchanting thought indeed! However, although this series consist of the question “what it means to marry for love?” The series promotes colorblindness, for the Duke of Hastings is a male of color, whom is the most eligible in his rank and Daphne Bridgerton, the most eligible woman of the season (whom is indeed white) falls in love with him. And then the question raises “Does love see color?” As we know, such representation wouldn’t dear exist in the eyes of our society during that time. This charming tale of a young woman on a quest for marriage could put our favorite Disney princesses to shame, for this is no show for children. But I must say, Cinderella herself would not dare turn away. As the series goes on things are certainly heating up a ton dear reader! Between you and I, there’s a secret that lies in this love story... As for the Duke of Hastings and Miss Bridgerton are in the middle of a scandal, his mysterious ways leaves Miss Bridgerton wanting more. And I mean more of everything. Her desires in her mind became a scandal indeed, the most intense boiling point is when her longing, her desires, has been granted when the lovers finally touched each other’s skin, and made art with their bodies. As they confess their love to each other, he pulls her in with slight aggression, and her mouth opens as if drool could fall out of it any second, and while he’s kissing her passionately, he enters her. The first gasp of a virgin finally feeling her first feels. And as for the Duke, he gets to experience his lovers wetness. Oh how I wish to partake in such intensity! For lovers of fairytales and romantics, gossip and scandals, as well as the art of sex, I myself is indeed, guilty of watching Bridgerton 4 times (going on 5 as we speak) and just like the ladies in the show, I told almost everyone I could tell around my neighborhood, I even had my very own Duke watch it with me! Even if your not a lover of romance and shakespearean language, everyone loves a good drama. Until next time my dear reader, I hope for you to join me for season two, my word you have, you will not be disappointed.
