Days of Our Lives execs prove they don't care about the fans

The sneaky move to Peacock speaks volumes and it could backfire.

Days of Our Lives is a generational soap

As a child, I heard my grandmother say that at a neighbor's house they sold bootleg liquor. She also told me that the family members in that home would "Roll you" while you were drunk. This meant that while one of their customers was under the influence of alcohol his pockets would be picked, and his wallet stolen. Days of Our Lives just used this ploy with loyal fans and it needs to be addressed.

Executive producer Frank Valentini was busy making sure fans were inebriated on the joy of Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope (Kristian Alfonso) being reunited and wondering how Steve Burton (Jason Morgan General Hospital) was going to fit in with Beyond Salem 2. All the while he knew the rug was going to be pulled out from under loyal viewers.

Days execs tricked loyal viewers

In the midst of Days fans' excitement about the cliffhanger with Bo alive again there was no indication that anything was amiss. Days fans were not even recalling that the two-year contract renewal in 2020 was about to run out as were the sands in the hourglass. Shame on Valentini and Corday productions and NBC if they had a hand in it.

Now fans are wondering what the real motive behind the move could be. Some of the cast said they liked that they could cuss on Peacock and have more explicit scenes. IF viewers paid attention Hope said sh-it when she realized Meghan DiMera was back from the dead. In A Very Salem Christmas, the men danced in their underwear to "We three Queens" which was a disrespectful take on the Christian holiday hymn We three Kings.

The move to Peacock could backfire

Do the execs believe they will attract younger viewers by moving to Peacock where the standards and censors of network television won't stand in their way? What about the loyal older viewers who have watched the show since day one? Several have spoken out on social media and it is heartbreaking.

I began watching with my great grandma in 1972. My grandma, mother, and all three of my children were Bo and Hope fans. One lady wrote that she has watched from the beginning and now is alone and Days of Our Lives gave her something to look forward to. She said she could not afford to subscribe to Peacock so she missed A Very Salem Christmas and Beyond Salem 2. Homebound seniors. widows and widowers are saying this move shuts them out and it’s disturbing.

The thing is that younger potential viewers can get all the R/rated and pornography viewing elsewhere. They are not going to suddenly begin watching grandma’s stories if they were not already invested. There is also the issue of Days of Our Lives and Beyond Salem competing on the same streaming service.

There are many questions to be answered

Is it possible that DOOL will be fazed out for the edgier spin-off or will Peacock offer both in an attempt to improve ratings? There is an end game but fans just have not been told. As if this writing no Days execs have addressed this issue and viewers are angry and disappointed. Some are wondering if NBC did not renew the contract or if Corday and his crew were planning this all along. There was so much hype about Days being renewed in 2020 only to destroy the fans trust two years later.

Days viewers are wondering when they will hear from the powers that be as there is a lot to account for. The cliffhanger with Bo Brady has viewers wondering what is coming next. Will part of the Days of Our Lives cast be on the original series while others are on Beyond Salem?

Time will tell

ABC tried airing General Hospital along with Port Charles and also General Hospital Night Shift but it did not work. One Life to Live and All My Children were on streaming services but they did not last. Was Beyond Salem a test to see if DOOL viewers would watch on Peacock prior to switching the parent show to the platform?

This could very well be the swan song of the daytime series that has been so beloved for six decades. This is no way to treat loyal viewers who kept Days of Our Lives on the air even though it did have the lowest ratings of the four remaining soaps.
