Daredevil: Born Again

Ep.3

By Alexandrea CallaghanPublished 2 months ago 3 min read

We ended the last episode with Matt killing the two crooked cops, and the Fisk’s are now in therapy. We have pointed out how well written these character arcs are, with Fisk and Matt being direct inverses of each other. Really what we are waiting for now is for Matt to give in and put that costume on again.

This case that Matt has taken is really showing the cops vs vigilantes storyline. The people who risk their lives to actually help people, with no credit or validation vs the people who claim to risk their lives to exert power over others. Truly an excellent plotline that perfectly serves as a framework for Matt realizing who he is and what the world needs him to be.

I really love these little videos of the citizens of New York talking about how the crime that is running rampant in the city is affecting them. It really grounds the story and reminds us that these are street level heroes and villains. It's a breath of fresh air in the Marvel universe to have a much more relatable set of characters and events.

Vanessa pushing for the Kingpin is really bothering me. They couldn’t have destroyed her character any further. This isn’t Vanessa Fisk, not sure who this is but they might as well have created a new character because never has a characterization been more inaccurate. And the fact that that statement applies to one of the only female characters in this show is pissing me off the more that she is on my screen.

Okay so he didn’t kill them, only kicked the shit out of them. That’s okay I guess, though I really want these dirty cops to die. I have absolutely no problem with death in these shows. I want my heroes to have the backbone to take care of business.

Fuck yeah Matt. I love watching this man drag these fuckers in court almost as much as I love watching him kick the crap out of them for real. Hottest lawyer ever. Matt come on bud you know the whole of the NYPD is out for this witness because he’s gonna blow their whole case. We couldn’t have added some extra protective detail? You’re telling me you’ve got no superhero friends who could have handled this? Okay good, gotta love a good decoy. This writing is making me stressed. And this dumbass druggy is also stressing me out. I get Matt wants to do things legally through the system, but I really just want him to kick the crap out of people. Vigilantism makes a lot of sense, the system sucks ass.

There is too much of Vanessa trying to be a mob boss, I truly can’t handle it. It's not giving her more agency, it's not making the story more interesting, all it's doing successfully is pissing me off because you butchered a perfectly good comic book character. Her being his moral compass in this specific storyline also would have made a lot more sense anyway, especially for the arc they are setting up. We’ve talked about Fisk and Matt being 2 sides to the same coin, that would be MORE clear if Fisk had his wife in his ear encouraging him to do things through the mayor's office instead of through crime. But instead they decided to completely fuck up Vanessa’s character.

Matt pivoting to using the people White Tiger saved as witnesses is GENIUS, he is a great lawyer. This show has officially reignited my love for Matt Murdock. This prosecution lawyer is terrible, going from helping the cops to murdering one is a Mister Fantastic level stretch buddy. Also reducing White Tiger’s life saving acts to “some nice things” is actually crazy. “Real heroes don’t need to hide”, no actually real heroes don’t need validation sweet cheeks. YES. Matt Murdock supremacy.

Okay White tiger is killed by, seemingly, the Punisher but that would make absolutely 0 sense. So I am going to give the show a chance to explain itself before I get unreasonably pissed off.
