Okay so Fisk is now the mayor of New York…this is going to go well. Matt is claiming that he has left Daredevil behind him but I think we all know that that’s bullshit.
Fisk’s entire platform is cracking down on vigilantes, and there are just so many in the city of New York. I am already loving the commentary on power hungry cops. This man is now under arrest because 2 cops refused to identify themselves and were using their authority to harass a citizen.
Time to put on the costume and beat the shit out of that judge Matt…I hate him. It is your legal obligation to listen to both sides, hearing the prosecution without letting the defense speak is automatically being bad at your job.
The police commissioner is not behind Fisk as mayor which is a lot hilarious because, at the surface, at least theoretically Fisk is attempting to give the power back to the cops. At least that’s how it seems. We know of course that he is really just trying to take power away from New York vigilantes and put pressure on them.
Matt is projecting so very hard. He finds out his client is a vigilante, and as Matt hung his cowl up he is having a hard time with the idea that other people are out there fighting the fight he gave up.
And Fisk is still Fisk, when the police commissioner tries to quit he threatens his family. Kingpin is most certainly still alive and well. I like that we are setting up this story for our two main players to be turning over a new leaf, but they can’t escape who they are.
Also I don’t think I like just how many people know who Matt Murdock is. The whole thing for these masked vigilantes is maintaining a secret identity and it really seems like everyone and their mom knows Matt is Daredevil.
And Matt’s new girlfriend is the Fisk’s new therapist…okay.
Out of uniform and you’re claiming NYPD? Yeah these are some dirty ass cops. Matt we can not be so focused on giving up Daredevil that you let the shit get kicked out of you. Yes thank you time to beat the crap out of some garbage cops.
Now he’s all disappointed in himself even though killing those shit cops was absolutely the right move. And he can’t be held accountable for their deaths because 1) Who the hell is going to accuse him? And 2) Who is going to believe that a blind guy overpowered and killed 2 cops? Literally no one. Matt is free and clear here and I love that those assholes got exactly what they deserved.
We are moving this story along and I appreciate the pacing. Fisk is using his new power position to disguise the fact that he is still the Kingpin. He is faking reform whereas Matt is actively fighting to actually be reformed. He is trying to be a different person. Neither can fight who they are or what their world needs them to be but Fisk is leaning into it whereas Matt is pushing against it. It's a perfectly written two sides of the same coin kind of character arc and it's going great. I do still have my gripes about Vanessa’s character but something I’ve learned as a woman in comic book spaces is that I can criticize it all day but there is a certain amount of stupid you just have to swallow. And it doesn’t affect the overall quality of the show so I will let it rest.
