Book ‘em Danno!
How a TV Show Binge Made me Want to Work for the FBI

A crime show that takes place on a rock in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, count me in. And then include some hot actors. Oh yes!!
Until a few years ago, I’ve never been hooked on the crime solving shows. But Hawaii Five O, Castle and Bones got me hooked, my favorite of which is obviously Hawaii Five O.
I own all 10 seasons of Hawaii Five O in digital format and whenever I need background noise, I just turn on an episode, or 12, to listen to. Okay, yes, I do partially pay attention too and sneak a few minutes of just watching ;)
Originally I started watching Hawaii Five O, because I’d spent a weekend watching movies that starred Scott Caan (Oceans 11, 12 and 13, to be specific). I just wanted more of him. My google search revealed that Hawaii Five O starred Scott as Danny Williams or Danno, which was on season 8 at the time, therefore it gave me 7 seasons of binging!
It took me about a month to binge through all of the episodes of the first 7 seasons and then get caught up on season 8.
I just can’t start watching a new show without being caught up to date on all of the episodes prior to that. I just have to know what has happened or why there are specific jokes going on.
I am a forensic accountant by trade, so you can say I love solving puzzles.
Watching a crime show is kinda like solving a puzzle.
I would also make a game out of it and see if I could figure out who committed the crime before they solved it in the show.
I usually figured out who committed the crime before they revealed it in the show about 75% of the time. The ones where I couldn’t figure it out, they usually had a twist in the plot line.
The other big favorite that I had about Hawaii Five O was the way that ohana was built into the show. All of the main players formed a family, but they weren’t blood related, well except for Chin and Kono.
The main players end up getting very close to each other throughout the show and really do form their own ohana. Over 10 years, the ohana grew closer and closer, solving a lot of problems together on a daily basis, whether those problems were personal or crime related.
Okay, yes the version of the show that I watched with Scott Caan and Alex O’Loughlin was a remake of a show from the 1980s. I never watched that version.
This show also fueled my drive to want to move to Hawaii. Who doesn’t want to live in a tropical climate and be able to walk on the beach every single day? So I will admit that the first 2 or 3 times through of binging this show, I was learning as much about Hawaii as possible. Like how to pronounce the names of the streets and towns.
But I also learned while watching this show and how they solve their crimes, that I really wanted to work for the FBI as a forensic accountant. Research into the numbers of a business or person has always been something I loved doing.
I do have 2 Masters degrees in Forensic Accounting for a reason.
But every episode I watched, pulled me further and further into the dream of wanting to be a federal agent in the forensic accounting division. I love helping to solve crimes. I love putting together the puzzle pieces of the financial stuff.
I actually really enjoyed watching the show to solve the crimes. I also learned that there are a lot of really horrible people out there, whether these crimes were based on real events or not, there are still crimes similar happening on a regular basis all around the world.
So Danny, Steve, Kono and Chin really fueled my desire to help solve crimes on my own. Somedays, I can’t even believe how strong my love is for solving these crimes. I already spent 6 years as a government tax auditor, so the next step is Forensic Accountant for the FBI.
