"Beyond The Gates" Week 3 Review

A very interesting third week sees a possible derailment in a devious alliance

We are now three weeks into the walking phenomenon known as Beyond the Gates, and boy is it getting delicious. The plot continues to thicken faster than my anticipation for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and that's saying something. I know I sound like a broken record for saying this, but I'll repeat it here: the soap opera genre needed this. Badly. So many twists, turns, detours, and all else took place in the last week of this show, so let's get to it, shall we?

Here are the highlights of Week 3 of Beyond the Gates:

March 10

So Leslie managed to charm her way into a pro bono session with Nicole, where she talks about Ted without Nicole knowing it. I couldn't help but be enamored by the name she used. Sherry Carter. Hmmm, that name sounds eerily similar to another name in the soap world. Anyway, we finally get Ted and Leslie, face to face, and it does confirmed that at some point during Ted's marriage to Nicole, Ted did the horizontal Curly Shuffle with Leslie, aka Dana, aka Sherry, aka whatever. So Leslie won't stop haunting Ted and encountering Nicole, and she let Ted know that point blank. Oh boy!

Entering the Tuesday episode, this had been gnawing at me for awhile. So Naomi was really upset at husband Jacob for arresting Dani, and while her anger started off as somewhat fair, it changed when she flat out accused Jacob of being in Bill's pocket. Naomi didn't consider that Jacob could have been between a rock and a hard place, which he was. Now I thought she'd calm down, but she doubled down on this, even went as far as comparing what happened to Dani to what Rosa Parks went through, and that's a huge stretch. Jacob said some things about Dani that were not called for, but Naomi going there and making Jacob out to be some sort of shill was just uncalled for. As I said, Jacob was caught between a rock and a hard place. He was damned if he did, and damned if he didn't. Even Dani herself told Naomi not to be so hard on Jacob, adding that Jacob was doing his job and that he's a good man. Thankfully, Naomi took her mother's words to heart.

Regarding Wednesday, I just want to make this section about my appreciation for Vanessa McBride and the woman playing her, Lauren Buglioli. A lot of attributes about this show made me beam, and one of them was Lauren Buglioli. The Lifetime movie fan in me still loved her four film appearances; a minor role in Brutal Bridesmaids, the lead role in Friendship Never Dies, and following it up with two villainous roles in Secrets on Sorority Row and Labor, Lies, and Murder. I've loved what I've seen from Vanessa; her friendship with Dani, and of course, her somewhat scandalous demeanor. Buglioli steals every scene she's in, and she's amazing as hell.

March 13

Something else that has been brewing for days; Eva and Leslie's alliance fracturing. Eva is definitely in on confronting Ted, but from the looks of it, she appears to be elated that she and Ted are talking. As for Leslie, she wants to burn their world down, she even got herself a waitress job during a celebration for Nicole, which sees Eva dressed to the nines. At the end of the Thursday episode, Leslie is ejected, as her behavior is drawing red flags. So who dropped the proverbial dime on Leslie. None other than Eva. She wanted her mother out of the way. My guess: either Eva's plans have softened, and she'll settle for being in Ted's life, or she has her own scheme planned.

March 14

Oh come on. You didn't think Dani was serious when she said that Bill and Hayley had left her mind, did you? If you seriously believe that, then you believe the moon is made of green cheese, and that Minnesota is a Cup contender--all sorts of delusional crap. Naomi suspected as much, and she was right to do so, as Dani went right to Bill and Hayley home while the couple was honeymooning, and we see her drinking a bottle of champagne that was meant for Bill and Dani's 50th anniversary. That image of Dani sprawled out drunk is just priceless. The fallout from that will be very interesting, indeed.

Another week of Beyond the Gates all wrapped up in one recap, and I sense some delicious stuff coming in Week 4!
