Avengers Endgame Review

Description

Avengers Endgame takes place right after the ending of infinity war where The Avengers lost. Tony was stuck in space. Steve with the other portion of Avengers. Thor in a state of shock after the avengers lost.

We see the avengers in a state they have never been before. This film handles character arc with the original 6 Avengers. Their different reactions to the loss in infinity war is by how those characters dealt with loss in their own franchise. Captain America is the hopeful idealist who has faith in people so he helps people deal with lost. Tony has suffered anxiety from the first avengers movie and in iron man 3 and tried to fix everything in age of Ultron that in this film for once he is at peace.

He took a play from barons book of building a family which was foreshadowed in infinity war. Thor a character who uses his faith in himself to save others is crushed in this film due to many loses in his film and infinity war and is dealing with the emotions with food and ptsd. Hawkeye who was the heart of the avengers in previous films loses his family in the opening becomes a vengeful type like punisher. Black Widow with her traumatic upbringing sees Avengers as her family.

War Machine and Antman are the levity of the film. Bruce banner from the traumatic event accepted both his 2 sides. I also have to address my review of Captain Marvel. Remember everyone acting like Captain Marvel is a god a perfect hero like she's going save the day. She helped but didn't tony and professor hulk save the day .All the drama of last years Captain Marvel and she's only in the film for the opening and final battle. The film is about each of the Avengers .The original Avengers reflecting on their past coming to terms with their issues and becoming better and learning and self sacrificing for one another.

Analysis

The film foreshadows future character events multiple times throughout the film. The early scene with Tony and Nebula forebodes tony dying. The film twists the audience thinking because tony has a family that he won't die like Hawkeye. Age Of Ultron played with Hawkeye's death but greatly waisted a new character Quicksilver.

Tony has dealt with trauma and ptsd throughout the iron-man films and Avengers and Avengers age of Ultron. Tony mentoring Spider-Man in Spider-Man homecoming and Civil War made him ready to go gently into that good night knowing he will have someone to pass the torch. Which Spider-Man far from Home greatly deals with. We see tony self sabotaging himself in age of ultron and iron-man 3 by trying by ready for future alien threat he hurts himself.

Infinity War and Endgame and in the respective Spider-Man movies and civil war we see Tony adopt the father role. Which he grappled with daddy issues in iron-man 2 he will later share that legacy with peter that when peter gets high tech shades that tony wore in civil war ,avengers infinity war and endgame that much like Tony in Iron-man 2 peter will feel unworthy of hero legacy that Tony's death will do in this film. Interesting where Avengers Endgame makes Tony come to terms with his father that he was someone similar to his dad to quote Howard never saw the greater good past his self interest.

Like Bojack Horseman with his mom. I find it interesting when Tony starts to love his dad genuinely fully that when he dies it sows the seeds for his surrogate type peter to feel the same emotional trauma in far from home that Tony felt in Iron-man 2 about Howard. That much like Howard ,Tony can't live up to Howard's legacy so does Spider-Man with Iron-man it's like a shared history of suffering and I imagine when Miles or Iron-Heart finally gets introduced in the mcu it's something spider-man will try to avoid but pass on to them.

Captain America's arc in this film is met full circle. Where the character is great impact on the mcu with each films in the trilogy.He sets the foreground for the mcu. Captain America Winter soldier is about Steve's distrust in the government and trust in people. Captain America Civil War is about the icon the symbol of liberty falling from his pure status by holding onto his ideals because all he has left of his past. While infinity war and Endgame is about the break of the character while going against someone who is both his and Tony's equal. Tony becomes whole in family while Steve it's in people who share his ideals. Endgame ends the film with him passing the torch to the new symbol of America. Falcon is the new symbol of America in that he served military and shared Steve's ideals while having more of a sense of humor .Which shows the post modern world's new meaning, while Bucky is the symbol of America's past. Having done awful things that have kept our society back but seeking redemption. Steve also got his happy ending we've been wanting with Peggy which puts back at reference of a dance in captain America first avenger.

Thor began the trilogy un relatable that had to lose each film to become a better more human person. In the first thor film he lost his worthiness and had to learn to live among the humans. Thor the dark world he lost his mother. In Thor Ragnork he lost his meaning of home and his hammer. Avengers infinity War showed that his warrior persona was that a persona a mask. With each thor film and Avenger film he held that mask but when he made thanos bleed and lose half of earth that was as we depressed folk call the camel the broke the moose. A lot of the geek webs are mixed on making thor fat, half the fandom hates it and wants him in shape the other loves it.I like it because it shows even heroes can break. The loss the character has dealt with he would break. It also gives fat people a hero to look upto.I must add the characters anxiety attack is relatable. Unlike Captain America this characters story is not done he's got a passing of the torch film to a girl thor jane foster from one of the underrated runs and a team up with guardians of galaxy for volume 3 where his arc must continue into he meets his end.

Hawkeye and Black Widow have a dual arc. In the age of ultron movie it set up that family is Clint's everything and he looses that in the first 5 minutes of this movie. This sets him on a dark path that can parallel to how Black Widow will be in her flashbacks of her solo film.

While Black Widow worried about the red of her past in avengers and age of Ultron finds solace from the traumatic event of Thanos finger snap that the avengers become her family.

Both characters get a death wish from events but being black widow is getting a prequal that's going lead to a trilogy with a new lead she gets killed off in this film .While Hawkeye is going be mentor to a younger lead in his ABC original show. Which can be argued he's always been since he was a reflection to what all the avengers can aspire to in age of Ultron and gave scarlet which the inspiring words to keep fighting in age of Ultron.

Interpretation

This film is a dream come true as a comic book fan but in a different way from Avengers infinity war. Avengers infinity War is more like a big event book where they kill off characters for other characters character development or to boost sales had a hard time enjoying Infinity War when it came out it just didn't feel like a full movie. I felt Like I was watching half of a movie with Avengers Infinity war where the characters were not fleshed out as much and the development went to Thanos

While Avengers Endgame is double as long as infinity war and feels like the end of an arc in the comics. Infinity war is like a comic to boost sales while Endgame sure it has it`s moments where every avenger is on screen which feels like a long panel page but for the most part this film is about the main 6 original Avengers dealing with there issues and either becoming worse or better people from the traumatic events of there solo film and team up films and gives the original characters much needed closure no after credits no this is next film just bitter gut punching closure if you connect with the characters thought the flaw with this film is it does the reverse of what infinity war did in giving avengers character they forget to give timeline 2 thanos any character.

Evaluation

The film is as Martin Scorce call it high quality cinema .I mean if he`s going to call it a theme park. It`s like a theme park where you use to smoke or drink near and look back on at old age and wonder how you have changed as this it thus making you realize your a relic of a bygone era that`s long past oh sorry dr Phil. If you love marvel movies it`s a 9 out of 10 if your not a mcu fan it`s a 7 OUT OF 10.
