Javi Hernandez will soon have a new face

Al Calderon is leaving his popular Days of Our Lives character Javi Hernandez, behind. The good news is he will continue to air until May of next year, because DOOL tapes episodes eight months in advance. The reason is that the actor has been cast in Season 2 of NBC’s primetime series Brilliant Minds, and Javi will also be recast, according to Deadline.

Caulderon's new role will be portraying Nurse Scotty Silva, who runs and is considered the Mayor of the Bronx General Hospital. Production for Brilliant Minds is taking place now in Toronto, Canada.

Soap Opera Digest reports the following: Calderon shared his big career news on Instagram and wrote, “Hold up, lemme get my scrubs on right quick. Big thanks to my crew, my village, my gang literally couldn’t do this without my right hand @mattgogal @culturedartists. My sweet sweet agent @juliemfulop @akatalent. Extra extra special thanks to @davidrapaport and @nbc for rocking with the kid 🥹,” he wrote before he added, “One more shout to @stella_selftape for quite literally being the best self tape studio in Los Angeles!”

Young soap opera actors move around

Unlike many soap actors who have been on their respective shows for three or four decades, the younger generation does not exhibit staying power, and some move on to what they consider bigger and better.

Days of Our Lives has been going strong, first on NBC and now on Peacock, for 60 years. Television sitcoms today don't remain on the air long, like Gunsmoke, which had a 20-year run on CBS. Who knows how long Brilliant Minds will be around?

Consider Kelly Thiebaud's General Hospital character Britt Westbourne, who was murdered when the actress went to Station 19 on ABC. It wasn't long before the series was cancelled after a seven-year run, and Thiebud's character has now returned from the dead.

Javi had a positive impact on Leo

Hopefully, Caulderon will have a long run on his new show, but with Javi being recast, he probably won't return to Days if the NBC drama is cancelled, as Thiebaud returned to General Hospital.

On Days of Our Lives, Javi has been a positive influence on Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart), who used to be in some type of trouble all the time. Leo has settled down considerably, and Salem residents and fans have noticed. The two are even helping to foster a baby.

Calderon joined the DOOL cast in October 2024 and quickly became a fan favorite. Fans aer sorry he decided to leave but understand. Best of luck to the actor in his new venture and whatever follows. Representatives for the Peacock soap said the following.

“We do not comment on the contract status of our actors, but fans should not worry, Javi is alive and well in Salem,” representatives for Days of Our Lives shared in a statement.

Loe and Javi might be in for heartbreak

Leo and Javi are watching the baby that Sophia Choi (Rachel Boyd) left in the safe haven box at the fire station. Sophia lied that she gave birth to a girl in Chicago and gave her up for adoption. Dr. Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) knows teh truth but is keeping quiet for now.

At some point, the facts will be revealed that the baby boy they are keeping is Tate Black's (Leo Howard) son with Sophia. There has been no news from Days 0f Our Lives regarding who will take over the role of Javi Hernandez. DOOL cast members have wished him all the best on his next assignment.
