Agatha All Along Episode 8 & 9 Ending Explained
Why Scarlet Witch Isn't In Agatha All Along

The MCU series reached an epic and poignant finish with Agatha All Along episodes 8 and 9, which addressed a number of questions while posing new ones for the franchise's future. Agatha, Jen, and Billy were the only three members of the original coven that set out to walk The Witches' Road after the conclusion of Agatha All Along episode 7. Furthermore, Rio Vidal, the MCU's Lady Death, was verified, providing a significant wild card to the events of the two-episode finale of Agatha All Along.
Death loomed large over the remaining three characters as they set out on The Witches' Road's ultimate trial, with Agatha All Along's ensemble smaller than ever. Many questions had been resolved by the end of Agatha All Along episode 9, including what would happen to Billy, Agatha, Jen, and Rio, as well as the actual nature of the MCU's Witches' Road. Agatha All Along episode 9 addressed each of these aspects while laying intriguing foundations for a potential MCU tale continuation.
How Billy Maximoff Created The Witches' Road
Billy is told by the title witch in Agatha All Along episode 6 that she knew he was Wanda's son since both magic users shared the same tell. This inconsequential remark reappeared in Agatha All Along episode 9 to explain what may have been the show's largest revelation: The Witches' Road was Billy's creation. Billy used his own powers to physically construct The Witches' Road using objects strewn across his boyhood bedroom, much like Wanda used her magical power to create the Hex and ensnare Westview in her fantasy world.
It makes sense that her son would have the same Chaos Magic as Wanda did, which enabled her to change reality as she pleased. Billy was able to write The Witches' Road because of this. Billy already had everything he needed to locate Tommy, but he required a tangible representation of this in order to carry it out. His Chaos Magic abilities therefore gave rise to The Witches' Road, a physical set of obstacles that he and the other witches of Agatha All Along had to face.
The Witches' Road: What Is It?
This, of course, begs the question, just what is The Witches' Road? Many will question whether it transpired inside the coven's thoughts or if Billy created an other dimension. Having said that, Agatha All Along episode 9 points out that everything that transpired in the show took place, indicating that The Witches' Road was based on a real place, much like Wanda's Hex was with Westview. Therefore, The Witches' Road is most likely to have been a sizable area of land beneath Westview that was unconsciously shaped to match what Billy wanted to find Tommy.
Two distinct scenes in Agatha All Along support this truth. For starters, in Agatha All Along episode 7, Lilia and Jen spot the deserted Westview subway station beneath the road. Second, just outside of Westview, Jen is shown violently clawing herself out of the dirt after regaining her powers. Billy's mental excavation of The Witches' Road beneath Westview may therefore be presumed, indicating that it was a real place made possible by his control over Chaos Magic.
An explanation of how Agatha dies
The fact that Agatha passed away was one of the most significant revelations in the conclusion of Agatha All Along episode 8. Agatha first vowed to give Billy to Rio, who believed that his reincarnation defied Death's natural order, but she ultimately decided to give herself as a sacrifice. Agatha initially approved of Billy leaving with Rio until the latter reminded her of her son, Nicholas Scratch from Marvel. Then, turning, Agatha approached Rio and planted a kiss on her. Acting out the traditional proverb of the "Kiss of Death," Rio ultimately got the one she wanted, leaving Billy alive.
How Agatha Makes a Ghostly Comeback
Agatha in the MCU did not, however, cease with this death. Similar to her appearance in Marvel Comics, Agatha made a reappearance as a ghost in Agatha All Along episode 9. Although the source material frequently claims that ghosts are created by beings who still have tasks to complete on Earth, the show does not specifically explain how this occurs. The title witch in Agatha All Along's case sought to recover the locket that had Nicholas Scratch's hair, which led her to Billy as a ghost.
When Will Agatha Harkness and Billy Maximoff Return?
Agatha retrieves her locket as a ghost, and Billy closes The Witches' Road, but neither of them knows what will happen next. Before Agatha claims she frequently murders members of her coven, Billy says he might use some assistance learning about his abilities. Billy sobs as he acknowledges that he has changed since creating Witches' Road, which resulted in the deaths of Lilia, Alice, and Sharon. After Billy makes a way out of the cellar, Agatha says, "Let's go find Tommy." There isn't a post-credits scene in Agatha All Along, but that promise essentially negates the need for one.
This suggests that Tommy Maximoff in his new body and Billy and Agatha will make a comeback in the MCU's future. Though several projects have been hypothesized, there are currently no confirmed planned MCU films or TV series that may realistically feature this plot. Given that Tommy and Billy are well-known members of the Young Avengers team in Marvel Comics, the first is the suspected Young Avengers project. Though it's unclear when this project will be filmed and released, it's possible that Young Avengers opens with Billy and Agatha saving Tommy.
Why Scarlet Witch Isn't In Agatha All Along
One of the main questions raised by the conclusion of Agatha All Along episode 9 for Wanda Maximoff fans is why she wasn't on the show. Given the strong bonds between Agatha, Billy, and Wanda as well as The Witches' Road, many people believed that Wanda would make a comeback to the MCU in some form in Agatha All Along. At the end of the day, Billy's attention was on Tommy. This explains why Wanda did not come back; Wanda's reappearance would not have fit the story's thematic throughline because Billy does not care about her and simply wants to find his brother.
After the conclusion of Agatha All Along, what happens to Jennifer Kale?
Jennifer Kale claws her way out of The Witches' Road in the final scene of Agatha All Along episode 9, as hinted previously. This occurred when she broke free from the tie that Agatha had put on her. After that, Jennifer takes off over Westview, leaving her future in the MCU uncertain. Nevertheless, considering what transpired during Lilia's trial, Jen's next appearance is virtually assured. In Agatha All Along episode 7, Jen was alluded to as the High Priestess in an Easter egg. The seemingly strong Jennifer Kale is now Agatha and Billy's ally in case they need a witch's assistance after they return.
In Agatha All Along, Sharon, Alice, Lilia, and Nicholas Scratch perished along with all seven of the MCU's Salem Seven antagonists, making the show's death toll at eleven rather high. The death toll rises to twelve if Agatha is included. Although Agatha is not officially dead due to her reappearance as a ghost, the conclusion of Agatha All Along leaves up the possibility that the titular witch will continue to exist in the MCU in the future.
