Being originally from third street southeast, Washington D.C. and having claimed "Third" growing up as a revolting youth, every time I hear "Third will not accept the terms that first and second class does!" I feel a instant connection.
3rd and Valley to be exact located in ward 8 of Washington D.C is a piece of my city that has yet to be gentrified. The ghetto still claims this part of the neighborhood and the residents who live in it. Constantly fighting for acknowledgement and equity all the while losing our children and elders to street violence or long term disease. I can say i truly resonate with the protagonist of the show "Layton". Not to mention his strong resemblance to my neighborhood brother and ward 8 council member "Trayon" White, whom I haven't had the pleasure in sitting and speaking with in almost 3 years. As if we were now in separate worlds of some sort. Maybe he's first class and i'm still in third? Or maybe i'm a taille?
"Snow Piercer" the 2013 action sci-fi, starring Marvel's "Captain America" actor Chris Evans and directed by Academy award winner for best motion picture "Parasite" Bong Hoon-ho movie gained a 5 star rating in my book of critiques. The 2019 spin off show has yet to miss that mark. I originally passed on the TNT DRAMA, thinking it'd never satisfy my Chris Evans crave and plus i had already seen Mr. Wilford's train derail. But with Covid-19 locking us all in and endless basketball games being played the site of Demi Moore doesn't hurt at all. I can say she has defiantley satisfied that crave. Her and my fire-stick's persistent promotion for season 2 sparked my interest once again to binge this show. As I type this up i'm literally 7 episodes in and just started watching it around 10:30 pm last night. These hour long episodes are nothing short of ecstasy! Each character brings their own country and culture to the train. Every class and every car brings a new twist to the already high reputation that the movie has gained. I hear all of the greatness stems from a novel, that I can already see myself ordering as I await what i hope will be a season 3. I'll probably re-watch the movie after I'm over with season 2 before reading the book because you can't binge on books. What makes this binge even better is that my partner and I have found a show that we both can sit, work and enjoy without the worry of getting bored or hogging the television. I can't recall the last "series' that her and I were able to completely agree on. She has watched every episode with me and even pauses when she goes to the bathroom so that she doesn't miss a thing!
With as much chaos going on in society and the fight for power in our own government backyard, it's calming to be able to watch a dramatization of it all without the worry of actual insurrection. Wow! We actually had one.
As we fight for social justice in my third street neighborhood with the election of a new leader I'll anticipate the outcome from the comfort of my couch. From first class to the tail, her and I are locked in to see what happens to Mr. Wilford's train this go around.
One thousand and one cars long. "One tail! No, one train!"
