Why 'Dark Souls' Has One of the Most Immersive Worlds in Gaming
Open worlds are glorious things. They enable the player to explore an expansive landscape that stretches out as far as the eye can see. It's an empowering thought to think that the entire world is open to the player and that there are no loading screens or restrictions of any kind. Of course, series such as Grand Theft Auto, Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Just Cause and Saints Row are almost synonymous with the term 'open world,' but there's one series that is somewhat brushed to the side when it comes to the open world genre. In acknowledgement to the upcoming remaster, this article is going to talk about the first Dark Souls and why Lordran (the world it's set in) aids in making it one of the most immersive experiences in gaming.

From Newbie to Average
Let's get this started off right. Hi! My name is Michelle and I am now a moderately average gamer. I started gaming when I was about ten with my first Nintendo 64 system, and moved my way up, though as fun as it was, I was never the compulsive gamer I tend to be now. That's okay though, I met a friend about a year ago (we will call him Roy), he knew nothing of gaming platforms or RPG or W.O.W. I had to explain to him that he was cool and it's more fun to learn while you play anyways. You discover more and look for the finite details game designers hope you find, like Easter eggs, more trophies, or even some inside jokes that you uncover. Like when I was ten I also had a PlayStation 1 and my favorite game was Spyro. Everything about that game I loved: the different levels, different worlds, and the monsters you battle. You can fly and you save people while collecting gemstones!! Who wouldn't think that's cool.

5 Tips for Playing Better Summoners
The conjurer's art is the folding of worlds. They can instantly traverse impossible distances with a step, and they can open doorways between the planes with the right words, and a circle of salt. There are some, though, whose mastery of calling creatures from the furthest planes is unsurpassed. Those who can call an army to their side with the wave of a hand, and who have formed an impossible bond with an outsider. Summoners are just as feared for the powers they can command as they are envied for them, however, if you're having trouble stretching into the boundless possibilities the class offers, here are some tips worth thinking about.

Kids These Days Will Never Know: Part One
As a kid growing up in Arlington, Texas, life and times were much simpler and easier. I'm a lover of nostalgia and appreciate the things that I was surrounded with. Every day, I daydream that I'm in an 80s or 90s tv show, video game, or movie. I'm going to share some things I've experienced and had as a kid that kids today never knew about. It's going to be broken down in five separate parts and 20 items in total, in no particular order.

God of War
God of War as a series hadn’t really evolved from the 2005 original and Kratos was one of the most badly written and 1-dimentional characters in gaming, a raging spartan warrior whose sole purpose in life was to rip everything he saw to shreds, not thinking of consequences, existing purely to get revenge on those who wronged him and as a weapon at your disposal.

Farcry 2: Purposefully Unpleasant
With the recent release of Farcry 5, I felt it was best to look at the past misteps in this long running franchise's veteran career. There was a time when no one knew about the open ended gameplay that has existed in Farcry for years, with the breakout title of the series of course being Farcry 3. But even fewer people remember its edgy, no nonsense older brother Farcry 2. And this is for good reason. By all accounts, the game was purposefully designed to break down the fun that gamers feel when playing a game such as this.

Top 5 Video Game Franchises
Video game franchises are an interesting concept. Usually starting with a gripping or intriguing first title in order to draw you in and continuously suck your hard-earned pennies from your pocket like a god damn Dyson, (other brands of Hoover are also available).

A-lister Video Games That Are Still Relevant
You may think that video games are retro or old-school, but there are more adaptations of video games now than there were 30 years ago! When you think of video games you may think of Pac Man, Super Mario, or The Legend of Zelda, but did you know there is more than just one game to these game series? Living up to its title, all three of these game series are still relevant today. Millions of people all around the world still play Pac Man, Super Mario, and Legend of Zelda. And they don’t just play just the original game. There are multiple games in each series. Pac Man, for example, has over 10 different adaptations, the Legend of Zelda has over 25 and Super Mario has 250 plus! So still relevant means, more installments? Sometimes yes and sometimes no. More installments do mean a continuation of the series, thus gaining more players but it does not necessarily mean it’s relevant. Relevant means still used as of today, still known. Hundreds of thousands of people are still interested in these franchises but not just for the original game; which is ok because for the newer installments, people are still interested. If the original game never got a sequel or new installment, the game most likely would have only been successful for a short time. Classmate Lennon Beckman says, “It really depends on the audience and the game. The Sonic franchise, for example, is known for adding new ideas but keeping the same style, which happened to lose a lot of its audience.”

4 Top Tips for Beginner Indie Game Devs. Top Story - May 2018.
1. Narrow your scope. It can be very easy to get excited about making a game you think everyone will love and want to make this incredible, complex game. Unless you are creating a game with a group of people it can be very daunting to create a very complex game. Keeping the game simple with some choices for the player is what you want to do, to begin with for your first few games. When you start off your first game with the in-depth game you’ve always wanted to make and it becomes overwhelming, many people end up giving up and feel defeated. The whole experience becomes negative instead of fun and enjoyable.
