I played Ebola Village so you don't have to.

This was a gumbo pot of games.

Let’s get this story going. Marina, the main character, is a divorced woman living alone in Russia. Her ex is Ruslan, and the details of their divorce are not mentioned. If they were, I missed that. But, before you can get into those details, Marina tries to call her mother and decides to go into a town to find her family and the everyone in the town is infected with a virus and walking around like zombies.

Upon entering her mother’s home, Marina finds a computer and begins to chat with a friend of her's. Ivan, the friend, tells her that the ebola virus was mutated by scientists to eliminate the population. I know, I know, it sounds very familiar, but it gets better. Marina kills her infected grandfather and finds her mother who has been bitten. She goes looking for medicine.

Now, what I’m not mentioning is that this entire time, Marina is shooting down infected villagers left and right. Some seemingly out of nowhere. In homes, in the streets, Marina is a serious fighting machine. Then, she meets a drunk man with a disease, and wonders why he survived the infected. Don’t beat me to the punch line. Marina encounters a woman in the church who says this is the end of days, but doesn’t comment on how the woman is bleeding from the eyes. Maybe Marina has seen it all at this point.

Finding a note from Ruslan that he has been bitten, but didn’t turn into an infected zombie, Marina then digs up his dead cat to find a code to a locker. Yes, this game has puzzles. Afterwards, she finds a record from Ruslan that states he is already dead, and he says that he still loves her. Marina states that she also loves Ruslan. I have to admit that this is a sweet moment in the doom and gloom of the game as more infected show up with each turn in the story.

Marina finds medicine for her mother, but has to wait for it to take effect. Now, from this moment, things begin to speed up. Marina figures out that the drunk man is safe because he is terminally ill. She goes to look for a syringe to inject herself with his blood. Think of World War Z, but the infect are slow moving, and not terrifyingly fast. Soldiers in a helicopter arrive to the village and are immediately killed by the infected. Kinda makes me wonder why they showed up…

Meanwhile, a message goes out over the radio that a safety center has been opened in a nearby town. Marina decides to go there and suddenly, werewolves. No, I’m not joking, a fleet of werewolves appear. If this was mentioned in a scattered note around the game, I must have missed it, because it literally comes out of nowhere. However, two to three shots with the shotgun and the werewolves are disposed of.

Marina injects herself with blood of the sickly drunk man, hoping that she is right (spoiler: she is). She then fixes a tractor to make an escape for herself and her mother. Upon returning to her mother, Marina discovers that her mother is now infected and attacks Marina. Marina is forced to kill her mother and then sets the house on fire.

Marina goes to the safety center and explains that those who are ill are not harmed by the infected. She vows to dedicate her life to stopping the scientists who evolved the ebola virus and created the infected.

That is literally the entire game. Now, I know you’re think that my commentary means I dislike this. Actually, no, I don’t dislike this game. The creepy environments set the tone, the animation reminds me of old school Resident Evil, and it is a good pick up, play, and finish in a few hours kind of game. Think of a B-rated horror movie to watch with friends. You laugh, you make jokes, you throw popcorn at each other, and then life continues.

There is a sequel to this game, so I actually am inclined to play that as well. If you’re looking for a decent shooter, this is your game. If you’re looking for a story-rich game with twists and turns, and you’re not familiar with the aforementioned series…story-rich? Not so much. Twists and turns? Not quite. But I don’t regret playing this.
