Why are dreams significant in our life?
Dreams - an alternate reality or just foolish thoughts
What are dreams?
Dreams are the experiences that a human being undergoes because his mind is constantly acting upon thoughts, ideas, and memories. While dreaming is an everyday tradition for most humans, we cant seem to remember them when we wake up. This makes us question what are dreams and why do we have them in our life?
Why dreams are forgotten so easily?
Experts believe that the phenomenon of dreaming is easily forgotten because the events that occur in our dreams aren't experienced in real life so it becomes difficult for us to remember. Our memories aren't just made up of what we see, emotions that we feel, sounds we hear, the smell, the rush of adrenaline all these combined make our memories. But while dreaming we just have images running in our minds so it becomes difficult for us to remember them, without the added stimuli of our senses we tend to forget things, hence the dreams.
Dreams are a connection to an alternate reality?
While some people believe that the dreams we experience are the connecting dots for an alternate reality. The experiences we feel are the memories of the other version of ourselves, when people think of an alternate reality they think of sci-fi stuff, which is not true. Alternate realities are infinite, that means you're a billionaire in some, you're poor in some, you might be a soldier in some, might be a corporator, a lawyer, and all of the things. So the experience of you running in a forest, or a trip to someplace exotic isn't too sci-fi vibes but could be an alternate reality. It doesn't mean that when you dream of hovering around in jet packs, or endlessly moving around in space with a bird's eye view of the entire milky way, it is not real in this reality but could be in a different one. Dreams can connect us to our own past and future self memories too, this way we can't grasp what's real or not.
Are the people in dreams real?
We can all recall a day we saw someone in our dream, it felt familiar but we couldn't recall their names, their identity, or simply don't know who they are. It is found out by various studies that the faces we see in our dreams aren't entirely new. Because our mind simply isn't capable of creating new faces, it might be but is certainly not good at it. Our mind works differently, while we don't recall seeing that person, we might have in some way felt their presence around us, we might have seen them on a billboard, music album, TV, subways, Stadium, Local park, etc. The unrecognizable faces are the ones we don't have any prior experience of meeting with but, our mind can construct their image, like if we didn't get a good look at him, but we remember their smell, if they smell clean and sweet we might associate them being feminine, if they smell rugged we might say they are masculine.
Hence, all the people we see in our dreams are the ones we have seen in our daily lives.
What is the final take?
You mich wonder that I'm contradicting myself, well presented you with two theories, the one that you believe is all your personal take. What I suggest is that you think of dreaming as a phenomenon that is connecting you to the alternate version of yourself in this present life form. In very simpler terms, it connects you with your wants in this life. The importance of dreams in our life is that they can help make our decisions, they can show us our weaknesses, our good qualities, the outlook of our life can change.
On a personal level, my dreams have always held a significant meaning, certain dreams of mine have shown me some events that have later happened as such, it has helped me shape my life now. Maybe it's some sort of spiritual awakening as some might say. But dreams aren't to be neglected and taken so lightly.
