More Thoughts On Writing And Sharing Ideas On Vocal

Introduction

At the moment I want to write but I have so many ideas going through my head and possible projects going through my head I am not sure what to do, and then I thought why not eulogise the benefits of the Vocal platform?

I was pleasantly shocked to see this wonderful tribute from Laura Pruett, and her latest challenge is one that I am working out at the moment. Unofficial Challenges on Vocal are interesting and a great source of prompts and ideas.

The music is "Do Anything You Wanna Do" by Eddie and the Hot Rods" which is appropriate for what we do on the Vocal platform.

Why Publishing On Vocal Is An Almost Perfect Way Of Sharing Ideas And Work

When I first started writing it was pen and paper, though in the seventies I was involved in publishing a fanzine. Then I progressed to a typewriter and a book (and also records) required money and a physical run, so although I wanted to get things out there, it was never going to happen.

Computers came along but were effectively super duper calculators and game machines. But you can see my gaming history here:

Then Project Gutenberg got people to type in out-of-copyright works and moved us towards ebooks. We were using computers for recording work and news sources went online as well.

Then I started my blog around twenty years back which I used to publish thoughts and things on but now is mainly the books I am currently reading.

And then I was tempted to join Vocal and it has been the best thing for my writing development.

It has resulted in six books self-published so far on Amazon which you can check out here

And this si how it started:

Vocal allows you to create articles, stories and poetry and publish almost immediately. These can be used as sources to create books if you want, but printed books, while nice to have are not immediate.

The platform allows you to include videos, music, links to virtually anything and images. You can see lots of examples of these in this Vocal Story.

Although the editor is not perfect, it is still very good and I have collated a lot of tips for writing and publishing on the platform in this article:

I am fairly laconic and a fan of white space (blank areas) and non-whitespace (images) because that gives the reader a rest from the words. These are better on the printed page, but pictures and videos in a Vocal Story can make it more interesting to the reader, and you can't do that in a printed book.

On this platform, and it will happen with this, is that you can get your work out very quickly, and then share it with your audience, and Vocal tells you how many people have read your story and allows other users to leave comments on your story which can actually build up the story, as I hope it will with this piece.

As long as you have access to the internet and a browser or an app you can put together your stories and unleash it on the world.

Conclusion

This has just been a piece to emphasise how good a platform Vocal is for sharing your work with the world. Although you need to build your own audience, your stories are seen on Vocal and you may get reads that way from other creators. The other thing is that your stories can be read by anyone and if they are, that is another half a cent or so in your Vocal wallet.

Thank you for reading and I would love to hear your thoughts on the Vocal platform.

I have been very happy with Vocal since I joined. After several months, I feel like I am finally starting to get to know a few folks and getting some great feedback. I will check out your story on Vocal tips. Thanks Mike.

I like Vocal, yet not being able to delete a post or edit it without being a member is no good; also, not being able to filter notifications to keep up with reactions, comments, follows from new posts is no good.

Way to go! I have good news of my own. I just published my own poetry eBook at BN.com (Barnes and Nobles). Also, an eBook on General medical abbreviations and now working on an Art book of the colorings I posted here on Vocal.

  • You deserved the accolades and thank you for keeping me on my toes when I am about to give up. Vocal is lucky to have you! And so is the community at large.

Thanks for the shout-out! I've noticed that you do an excellent job of embedding images and links for the more visually inclined. It's a wonderful use of Vocal, but being not visually inclined myself, I tend to forget to do it 😉
