Grubhub Code Scam: You may not be refunded
A new verification method is costing customers.

Beware of the latest scam
I live in Southwest Virginia. I placed an order today for Grubhub. A two-digit code came up on the screen that I was supposed to give the delivery driver. I received a phone call from a man who asked for the code and said my order would be on my porch.
I went outside to wait and received a phone notification that my order had been delivered, but it never came. I was informed by a Grubhub employee that the code indicated my order was delivered, and I could not obtain a refund.
I explained that I had been on the porch the entire time, and my Ring camera could verify that no driver came. I dialed the number of the person who contacted me and, as expected, there was no answer. After talking to two more employees who said my money would not be refunded, I spoke with a supervisor.
She explained that the code is to prevent people from lying about not receiving their orders and is only to be given in person, which I did not know. This is why they had a no-refund policy.
The email with the code and instructions to give it in person was delayed and did nto arrive until just after I had given the information over the phone.

Always a new scam
I explained that I was a senior citizen and did not have $25.00 to lose. Finally, she agreed to give me $25.00 in credit so I could reorder without a cost.
I take responsibility for not thinking this through and giving the information over the phone. On Reddit someone was scammed out of $86.00 in food that was supposed to be for a child's birthday party after giving the code to the alleged Grubhub driver.
There are several ways this code scam works. Remember, never give the code over the phone. I replaced my order, and this time I was not asked for a code. The driver snapped a photo.
Unfortunately, some delivery drivers and customers lie and scheme, and we all pay the price. On a different day, I probably would have called Grubhub and asked for details about the code. I am thankful I received a refund and will try to be more on guard about scams.

Be vigilant
I spent 20 minutes on the phone, determined to get my money back, and I did. My advice to those reading is to question and investigate everything that seems suspicious. Also, ask about changes to delivery services.
I had not slept well for two nights, so I was not as alert as I might have been. We live in a world where not everyone is honest, so we must be on guard at all times.
At first, I was outraged that someone would call me with the purposeful intention of stealing my food. I hae to accept this is the world we live in. There is a saying that humans are basically good, but I disagree. After 67 years on this earth, I believe the Bible verse Jeremiah 17:9:
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

Don't be devoured
Another scripture that comes to mind is 1 Peter 5:8. (above) Some people are roaming around seeking whoever they can devour with scams. I have been receiving scam text messages and emails almost daily for several years now.
The news continues to tell of fraud taking place, especially against older adults. Please be careful and question so you will not be a victim. DO everything you can to remain alert and not be devoured by the latest scam.
