Waiting for a Drone to Deliver My Package
The not so unfathomable technology of the future
Technology is always and rapidly changing. The technology that existed even just 10 years ago has changed significantly both in function and design. Cell phones are not what they were when they first debuted. Neither are desktop computers.
Ten years… fifty years… one-hundred years ago… people have been predicting just what sorts of technologies would become a reality. What will the future be like? And now we are living in the very future of what those from decades past could only imagine.
Now it’s our turn to speculate just what technologies we will be living with in the future — ten … fifty... one-hundred years from now.
Some of these technologies have already become a reality. However they will only become more advanced and mainstream in the future. Here are some of the technologies of the future:
Foldable Electronics
We already have the Samsung Galaxy Fold, Samsung’s foldable smart phone. However, that is just a hint as to what’s to come. Just imagine if TV’s had the ability to fold and become even more compact than ever when they aren’t being used. As a matter of fact, the foldable TV is already a reality.
Presenting high end TV brand, C Seed’s M1 TV, the first foldable 4K microLED TV. It has an impressive 165 inch screen that rises and unfolds right out of the floor. Then, when you’re done watching, the TV retracts back into the floor again until next time.
Take a look:
The TV has gone through some significant innovations in just the last few decades. Similar to computers, the television has gotten more narrower and compact and at the same time, more larger screen wise.
We have gone from bulky and boxy TVs to flat screens that mount against the wall saving a tremendous amount of living room space.
The TV can do so much more today than it could have ever done decades ago.
Drones
The drone has become one of the most influential technologies of our time. The device has played a significant role in space exploration such as NASA’s “Ingenuity”. It was the first aircraft to fly in another planet’s atmosphere.
In the near future, drones will become even more relevant to everyday life. Imagine receiving your packages via drone. Sounds like something straight out of a sci-fi movie, but in the not so distant future, drones delivering packages will be a reality.
Amazon has already announced it’s drone delivery project, Prime Air, an air delivery service.
You order a package. Designed and tested to avoid other aircraft, people, and other obstacles, the drone will fly to and descend into your yard, and release the package from a safe and reasonable height, and ascend back into the sky. Of course, with any new technology, there will be a few bugs to work out before it becomes more mainstream. However, I can most definitely see the use of drones as a way to receive packages one day in the future.
The Metaverse
We have become more connected to the digital world than ever before and as the technology to use and view it advances, we will be even more connected. We are living in two worlds — the real world and the virtual world.
In the near future, the metaverse will become more relevant and accessible, and a part of our everyday lives as the real world and the virtual world blend together. Being in the metaverse, the possibilities as to what you can do and who you can be are unlimited. The more the metaverse becomes even more technologically advanced, the more realistic the virtual world becomes.
Imagine that you want to take a tour of the Louvre in Paris, France. With the metaverse, that will be possible with a VR headset and haptic gloves right in your living room. You will be able to experience every sense: touch, sight, sound, even smell.
Driverless Cars
The automobile was a groundbreaking invention that forever changed society. The car has been innovated time and time again and some have perhaps wished for a future in which driverless cars were a convenient possibility in our lives.
Driverless cars are already a reality. Google’s self driving car project, Waymo operates a self driving taxi service called Waymo One. However, this ride service is currently only available in downtown Phoenix, Arizona and will be available next in San Francisco, California.
There will be a few benefits with the eventual rise of the self driving car such as the elimination of potential accidents caused by human error and negligence such as speeding, distracted driving, and road rage.
Even though driverless cars are here already, it will be a while before they become more mainstream. There will need to be an undoubtedly thorough amount of testing before the driverless car becomes a common sight on the highway. Maybe teleportation would be a better alternative.
And now, the more we move into the future, perhaps the more unfathomable some of these technologies will sound. Just think how unfathomable and impossible some of the technology today such as voice recognition software like Amazon’s Alexa would have been one-hundred years ago or even fifty years ago.
