It was a magical Monday morning in Wales and one excited little girl had woken up. Esmae was full of smiles and running around the house cheering because today was going to be special for her.
Weeks ago Esmae's mum had organised a very special trip to see a beautiful white horse that was owned by a man called The Wizard. Esmae loved all things mystical and magical so when she found out the man was called The Wizard she could not contain her excitement. From that day she had promised her mum that she would be the best daughter in the world.
Now the day had arrived Esmae and her mum were getting dressed and getting ready to leave the house. Esmae remembered to grab some apples and then she left the house with her mum and took the one hour drive to The Magical Woods. It was fun drive as Esmae and her mum were singing songs and playing eye spy.
The car pulled into a small car park and above them was a big sign saying Welcome to the Magical Wood. Esmae had gone quiet, her heart however was beating so loud that even her mum could hear it. 'Wow princess, I can hear your heart, you must be very excited.' said her mum. Esmae could not answer, she was amazed by the magical woods. The trees were swaying and sounded like they were singing. The sound of a stream could be heard and also the sound of a horse neighing. 'Come on mum lets go.' she screamed with excitement.
They both walked into the wood and just around the corner they saw a house. As they approached the front door opened and they were greeted by a man with long silvery grey hair wearing a long wizard's cloak. 'Hello to you both.' he said. 'I assume this young lady is Esmae?' Esmae looked at him, her eyes sparkling in wonderment. 'Yes that's me.' she replied. 'And this is my mum Rachel.'
'Welcome to you both, today is going to be magical and amazing for you both, but especially you little Esmae.' exclaimed the wizard.
They all sat down for a drink and some food. He served them hot chocolate with marsh mallows and some bacon rolls, ham rolls and egg sandwiches.
'Ok, now we have full bellies let us go and see my uni........my horse.' said the wizard.
Esmae heard him and a small glint could be seen in her eyes. She didn't say anything, but her heart was now pounding harder than ever.
The wizard led them to a big red barn. He asked that Esmae and Rachel stand back as he opened the doors. As he swung the large doors open Esmae and Rachel were greeted by a sight that so many dream about, but so little see. Inside the barn was a glowing white unicorn. The most beautiful unicorn that had ever been seen. Esmae and her mum were stood there with mouths wide open, they could not believe thier eyes. 'Come forward both of you and meet Princess, my unicorn and loyal friend. ' said the wizard. They both walk forward slowly until they were close enough to reach out thier hands and touch Princess. Esmae's eyes filled with tears of joy as she stroked Princesses mane. 'She is the most beautiful, most magical and most wonderful unicorn I have ever seen.' she cried. Esmae's mum was also crying. 'We came to see a horse.' she said. The wizard got down on his knees in front of Esmae and looked up at Rachel. 'You see Rachel, most who come here will only ever see a white horse, but Esmae is a huge believer and this is why you both see a unicorn.' he told her. 'I am so glad that she is and I'm so glad you came today.'
Esmae hugged the wizard and asked why today was so special. 'Today is so special because its the day of The Great Unicorn Race.' he said. 'And it's you Esmae who will be riding Princess in the race.' Esmae could not believe her ears. She was about to ride a unicorn in a race. Today was the best day ever for her.
The wizard waved his hands to the left and then again to the right. He called for the magical doorway. Then suddenly at the back of the barn a mysterious doorway opened and they all walked through with Princess. They were transported to a magical land and they could see the racetrack. There were about ten unicorns circling the paddock. All of them being ridden by fairies, elves and dwarves. 'We got here just in time.' exclaimed the wizard. 'Here Esmae, let me help you get onto Princess. She will take good care of you. Just hold on and she will do the rest.'
Esmae was sat on the back of Princess, her mum was glowing with pride and excitement. 'Go on my little princess, race for the win. I love you.' She told Esmae.
'I love you too mummy and we are going to win for you.' she replied.
All the unicorns were ready at the start line, Esmae was holding on tight. A loud bang is heard and all the unicorns sprint down the track.
Esmae and Princess get off to a flying start, literally. They were not touching the ground. They were going so fast and they were creeping up to first place. As they were about to pass the first place unicorn, the fairy that was riding sprinkled a little fairy dust and princess began to float higher in the air. This slowed her down and all the other unicorns passed her. 'Oh no.' cried Esmae. 'What shall I do?' She saw some fairy dust was on the top of Princesses leg so she reached down and brushed it off. Just as the last bit came off they began to float back down to the track and princess began to speed up. Esmae held tighter than she thought she could and leaned forward. She whispered into Princesses ear, 'I believe that you are magical. You are wondrous and you are so very beautiful. Let's win this race for my mum and for the wizard.' Hearing this Princess took flight once again. Her hooves just inches from the ground. She sped up so fast that Esmae almost lost her grip.
The rest of the unicorns were in sight, but so was the finish line. 'Here we go Princess, let's make a move.' cried Esmae. They flew past all the unicorns apart from the one with the naughty fairy. The fairy saw Esmae and reached for more fairy dust. The wizard could see this and shouted, ESMAE? BRUSH PRINCESS'S MANE' Esmae heard the wizard and gently stroked the mane. It started to glow and rainbow coloured glitter started to sprinkle off. Esmae knew what to do. She caught a few bits of the magic glitter and threw it toward the naughty fairy. The naughty fairy then dropped his fairy dust all over his unicorn and they began to float upwards. Princess dropped to the track and galloped the last few yards and past the finish line. They had won, Esmae and Princess were the Great Unicorn Race winners.
Everyone was cheering and throwing flowers into the winners paddock. Esmae was presented with the winners trophy. The wizard and Esmae's mum were there and helped her down from Princess. 'We need to be getting back home now.' explained Rachel.
They all made thier way back through the magical doorway into the barn. Esmae said a few words to Princess and thanked her for an exciting and magical day. The wizard led them back to the house and gave them some souvenirs to take home. 'Oh and don't forget your trophy.' He said. Esmae gave him the biggest hug she had ever given and thanked him for the best day of her life. The wizard stood at the door and waved to them until they were out of sight.
They both got into the car and Rachel asked Esmae 'So did you have a good time?' Esmae looked at her mum, tears rolling down here cheeks, 'Mum today was the most magical day you could ever give me. I love you very much and thank you.' she replied.
Rachel, now crying too said, 'I love you too my little princess and you are welcome. Let's go home.
