So, you may have guessed, I’m an Aries soul sistar!
We are the first sign of the zodiac so always like to be first in everything. Well, it just means we are extremely impatient, that’s all and don’t want to wait for anyone else. We can be a little extreme, I must say, whether that’s with a little bit of competition or wanting to try something new, but we do have loads of energy to share.
There are a few traits that usually belong to the Aries tribe.
Qualities Arians may want to work on, if they have time
Impatience. Well, I did warn you. I am seriously the most impatient person I know. I have been working on this, my whole life that is. We just like to get somewhere really quickly that’s all as there are so many places to see and things to do and just never enough time to do it in.
Speeding. Yes, when you always need to get everywhere quickly, speeding tends to be a bad habit and expensive side effect for the Aries tribe. So, many speeding fines later, well, let's just say that I’ve had to learn the hard way with this one, to slow the hell down!
All or nothing is our motto. An Aries will do everything in two gears, either 100 miles per hour or not at all. We either give something 100% or we give it none of our attention. So, when I smoked, I chain smoked. You get the drift. We can be a little extreme in this sense which leads to some risk-taking adventures and also burning the candle at both ends, which is something I’ve heard my entire life. For example, as a risk taker, I did go tandem skydiving once. Well, I was scared of heights and wanted to face my fear, however, I did pass out along the way and landed like a sack of potatoes, with the poor guy trying to scramble out from underneath me. Whoops.
Ramming into things. Yes, literally. Otherwise known as selective vision. We are the rams in the zodiac and I hate to say it, but I literally physically walk into things all the time. Bruises everywhere. These are physical structures that are usually clearly visible for everyone to see and in my clear line of sight and yet, I somehow walk into them as if they do not exist. Trees are the most common obstacle, otherwise, coffee tables (well they are low and below my line of vision) or my bed, which hasn’t moved, but is somehow in the way again! It’s usually because we are too busy running around trying to be everywhere at once and just don’t see what is in front of us!
I have a story which is very typical of an Aries. I was driving up the coast, one Sunday morning, to attend a day retreat. This very slow and very annoying driver was in front of me and being a typical Sunday driver (so driving under 50km/hr) and making me extremely impatient, so I thought I would just put the pedal to the metal and overtake him. It was a country road, so nobody was around. Or so I thought. Well, a few minutes later, the boys in blue (loud sirens) came up behind me and I got pulled over for speeding. Luckily, the radar in his car wasn’t working that day so he couldn’t actually book me and off I drove (phew). I thanked the universe for helping me to avoid a speeding fine and promised I would slow down.
So, later that afternoon, mid-retreat, we had a lunch break and I walked down to this beautiful lake via a wharf. I was basking in the sun and enjoying the beautiful day and feeling so zen and thought I’ll just jump off the wharf to the shore and get closer to the water. Well, as I did this, I was catapulted backwards onto the wharf by a massive tree trunk that hit me square in the forehead and knocked me off my feet. Now, one would think it came out of nowhere (well I did), but lo and behold, it was there the whole time, as my friend politely pointed out, I just literally did not even see it! I was half crying and laughing as it hurt that much and told the universe that I truly promise to slow down now!
Strengths of an Aries – the planet Mars is the ruler of War!
So, Arians seem to display a lot of speedy Gonzales traits, however, we do have some other more pleasant qualities. We are loyal souls and passion is our mantra. We are fiery, passionate and will defend our friends, family, children, pets and even those we don’t even know, especially the unfortunate, disadvantaged or those who don’t have a voice or people to fight for them. We will stand up and fight for a cause that we believe in and defend those who need it the most.
We are pioneers and like to go where no others have gone before. Like last weekend, I asked my friend to accompany me and took her on a journey with a raw cacao ceremony, a love tunnel (don’t worry it was safe) and ecstatic dance evening which is pretty much dancing like nobody is watching, under the full moon, sober.
We are natural leaders (or bossy, whichever floats your boat) and just tend to take charge in most situations (elected or not). We don’t mean to, we just believe that someone needs to do it, so will usually quite happily put our hand ups as we just want to move on and get it done. We are doers and action focused. If you want something done, we’ll be there to support you and we’ll get it done with you. We are fighters (well Mars is the ruler of war), but usually just to defend ourselves and others not fighters like ninja warriors, although I did do kickboxing and karate for many years so watch out! #waxon #waxoff
We are chatty, have a great sense of humor and a fiery temper (that War energy again), so if we do get a little bit feisty and accidentally breathe dragon fire on everyone around us, it’s usually pretty short lived (like 5 minutes or so) and we’ll forget all about it and expect everyone else to as well.
Who said Challenge? We love a Challenge!
As I’m much older now though and my body can no longer wax on and off like it used to, I do find that one thing (besides patience) that the Aries nature finds challenging is balance. So, balance is something I’m always looking for more of now, so the see-saw is not tipped upwards 100% and I’m not stranded in the air at the playground, legs dangling. Aries are fire signs, so we absolutely love anything to do with the water as it calms our fiery soul and brings the balance to our lives and energy that we need. The ocean is my absolute calm and I’ll spend as much time as I can on, in, under or near it. The cool water and flow is the synergy to the hot fire and is the balance that most Arians need.
As we have very busy minds and want to do ‘all the things’, meditation is also great for Arians. You may have heard the saying that you need to calm the monkey-mind, well, my mind is seriously like a chimpanzee zoo most of the time, so the Zen stillness of meditation helps me to stop in the moment, dead in my tracks and just be for a moment. It’s also a great way to help that creativity flow.
So, we Arians may sound like we are a lot to handle but we are a bundle of fun and always good to have around, as long as you are definitely with us and not against us.
