Pakistan's First Space Mission SUPARCO Invites Scientists and Students to Join Historic 2026 Spaceflight

In a historic step toward space exploration the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has officially invited scientists, researchers, and students to participate in Pakistan’s first ever space mission set to launch in 2026 in collaboration with China. This landmark opportunity allows Pakistani nationals to propose and develop scientific experiments that may be conducted aboard the Chinese Space Station (CSS).

A Bold Leap for Pakistan’s Space Program

SUPARCO’s announcement is not only a scientific milestone but also a symbol of national progress in space technology. After decades of steady growth in satellite technology and space research this mission marks Pakistan’s formal entry into manned space exploration. The collaboration with China is the result of a space cooperation agreement signed earlier this year under which Pakistan is expected to send its first astronaut into space aboard the CSS. The Chinese Space Station also known as Tiangong, is a fully operational space lab orbiting approximately 380 kilometers above Earth. It completes one orbit every 92 minutes and is equipped with advanced facilities for conducting experiments in microgravity vacuum and extreme temperatures.

SUPARCO is encouraging the Pakistani scientific community including university students research institutions and independent scientists to submit proposals for experiments to be conducted during the mission. The agency is looking for innovative cost effective and lightweight ideas that can be executed in a microgravity environment over the course of a week.

The priority research areas include:

Life sciences and human health

Biotechnology

Fundamental physics

Fluid dynamics

Materials science

Agriculture and food sciences

Astrophysics

Special emphasis is being placed on experiments that address challenges in agriculture and medicine where microgravity can reveal insights not possible on Earth. For example experiments related to plant growth cell biology or fluid behavior in space could have significant applications back home.

Guidelines for Participation

According to SUPARCO all submitted experiments should be original, scientifically valuable and in line with the research objectives of the Chinese Space Station. Proposals should also demonstrate practical benefits for society, particularly in relation to sustainable development goals.

Submissions must meet several key criteria:

Lightweight and compact in design

Require minimal astronaut interaction

Complete within 7 days in space

Meet safety and technical standards for space based research Applicants are required to submit detailed proposals outlining the objectives methodology, expected outcomes and scientific relevance of their experiments. The deadline for submission is April 30, 2025.

Empowering the Next Generation

This mission is not just a technological endeavor but also an educational initiative. By involving students and young researchers SUPARCO aims to cultivate a new generation of scientists engineers and innovators who can lead Pakistan’s space efforts in the future. Educational institutions across the country are being encouraged to form space clubs, research teams, and innovation labs to take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The mission is expected to spark national interest in STEM (Science, Technology Engineering, and Mathematics) fields and inspire future contributions to both national and global scientific communities.

The Road Ahead

As Pakistan prepares to enter a new era in space science this invitation to participate in the nation’s first space mission is a moment of pride and promise. It reflects the country’s aspirations to become a competitive player in global space exploration and scientific advancement. SUPARCO’s initiative is a bold step toward building a strong space culture in Pakistan. With support from international partners and active involvement from its talented youth and scientific minds the country is poised to make meaningful contributions to humanity’s journey beyond Earth.
