There weren't always dragons in the Valley. When Issa was six the valleys were filled with fairies and happiness. Now they were filled with nothing but darkness. However, it was still the only place Issa felt safe. As long as she stayed clear of the dragons…

Chapter 1

Issa, now twenty-two, woke up to the smell of her favorite incense, Nag Champa, burning in her room. She rolled over with a smile on her face to find her best friend Ivy sitting there with a lighter and bowl in hand asking her if she was ready to start their morning.

Issa and Ivy have been best friends since they were three. They used to run through the Valley and swim in the creek until the sun went down. That was all before the dragons came.

Issa used to have a crush on Ivy when they were fifteen but she never had the courage to say anything because she thought Ivy was straight. Ivy eventually got a boyfriend and Issa met Kennedy so she buried her feelings for Ivy and left them there to be forgotten about.

Issa realizes she’s been daydreaming when Ivy repeats her question.

“Issa? Do you want to smoke?”

Issa quickly snaps out of it and with a smile says, “Sorry, yea. Let’s go.”

The two of them head to the patio where they both sit on the couch. They’ve each taken a few hits and while Issa is about to take another Ivy says something that freezes Issa completely.

“Issa…I’m in love with you.”

Issa sets the bowl down and turns to Ivy.

“This is a joke, right? I thought you were straight?”

“Issa I would never joke about that with you. I’ve loved you since we were thirteen. I was too scared to say anything at the time and when you came out a few years ago I almost told you but…”

“But what Ivy?” “But you came home the next day rambling on and on about Kennedy and I didn’t want to ruin your mood. I was hoping you’d sense something was off and push me to talk about it but you didn’t notice so I kept quiet. Then when you and Kenn broke up a few weeks ago I decided I’d tell you once I got the courage. So, now I’m telling you.”

Issa sits back and crosses her legs and she suddenly starts to feel like she can’t breathe. Has Issa really loved her since they were thirteen? Why did she never tell her?

“Issa? Please say something.”

Issa turns to Ivy and kisses her so passionately that it takes Ivys' breath away. Ivy snakes her hand around Issas' neck and the other around her waist and kisses back. She starts to lean forward while Issa lays back so now Ivy is on top of her. Ivy pulls away for a moment so she is now straddling Issa and looks down at her with a smile. Ivy pulls her tank top off and Issa leans up to unclasp her bra. She starts kissing Ivy all over her breasts and her stomach.

Before they know it they’re both in nothing but panties. Just when Issa is about to slide Ivy’s panties to the side to eat her out she looks up at her and says with a concerned face,

“Are you sure Ivy? Is this really what you want? Because if you break my heart you’ll also break our friendship.”

Ivy leans forward, kisses Issa softly, and says,

“Issa. I have never been more sure of anything in my life.”

Issa smiles as she slides Ivy’s panties down and looks up at her just as she flicks her tongue on her clit.

The two of them take turns for the next three hours eating each other out and smoking in between. Then they both lie naked on the couch and fall asleep.

Ivy wakes up first and wakes Issa up by planting a kiss on her forehead. They lay there staring out at the beautiful sky when they decide to not waste the rest of the day and go do something. They walk back into Issa’s room and Ivy goes off to her room to change. Issa opens her closet and decides on a cropped sage green cami, white jean shorts, and her black high-top converse. She walks into the living room to wait for Ivy. When she comes out Issa grabs her keys and they head out to the car.

They decided on dinner at Poggi’s. They arrive and take a seat at their usual booth by the window facing the lake. A waitress comes by to take their drinks and when Issa looks up, she freezes.

Their waitress is Kennedy.

Ivy can sense that Issa starts to get anxious so she grabs Issa’s hand and starts rubbing her thumb back and forth.

“Oh, umm hi Issa. How are you doing?” Kennedy says while quickly glancing at Ivy’s hand on top of Issa’s

Kennedy doesn’t say anything but Ivy can tell she’s making her jealous by touching Issa.

She glances over at Issa and can tell she’s too anxious to respond to Kennedy’s question so she says,

“Kennedy, we actually usually have Jax as our server so if you could send him this way that would be great.” And then paints on the fakest smile.

Kennedy gets angry at this statement and storms off to get Jax.

Issa looks up at Ivy pleading for her to just get her out of there but Ivy insists that she can’t let Kennedy get to her anymore.

“Issa, she can’t hurt you again. I won’t let her. I promise you're safe with me.”

Issa smiles and nods her head. Jax then comes over and they place their order.

They stay at Poggi’s until they’re about to close and on their way out they bump into Kennedy, who got off hours ago, waiting outside for them. Ivy stands on the other side of Issa to put space between Kennedy and her so Issa feels safer.

“Issa, can we please talk?” Kennedy says pleadingly.

“She has nothing to say to you, Kennedy.” Ivy spats.

“I wasn’t talking to you Ivy. Move out of my way”

“And what if I don’t? Are you gonna hit me too?”

Kennedy just stares Ivy down like she really might hit her.

Ivy goes to turn to grab Issa’s hand so they can leave before Kennedy says anything else but when she turns, Issa’s gone.

Ivy knows exactly where Issa ran to. She ran to the Valley.
