The Upper West Side

It was an exciting day in the Upper Westside of downtown New York City mostly in the Spring. It's every teen dream of Spring in the Upper Westside, every woman's nightmare. Among the chaos, Serena was lying in bed admiring her love William. She and William met at a convention in Buffalo three years ago. Serena couldn't resist the six-foot-tall slender, bright skinned gentleman dressed in a black silk shirt and tie. Not only was he a good dresser, but he also had a smile to die for; his hair was low, complementing his brown almond-shaped eyes.

"Oh well, another day, another dollar Serena said to herself."

She passed the mirror, admiring herself. She spent six months working on her body and finally achieved her desired results. Serena stood five-nine, with thick thighs, long legs, and her most valuable asset, her eyes. Her eyes were the key to her soul; they told everything about her. Her long black hair layered well against her ebony bronzed skin.

"Did you sleep well? asked Serena?"

"Despite the fact we argued all night, no. replied William"

"I'm sorry, it's just that you don't make yourself clear? Said Serena"

"Like you do? William replied"

Serena stopped and gazed at William, saying in her mind, "You motherfucker how dare you, after all I have done for you. That suit was the only decent pair of clothes you had."

Serena walked up to him and kissed him on his cheek, saying.

"Have a good day at work, baby."

Serena got dressed and stormed out the door wearing her denim jumper with her red heels and a Prada bag a client brought as a thank you gift. After dealing with the flirty cab driver the entire drive, she was glad to be released from her prison. Serena was welcomed by the Getty interns that were with the company over the next few weeks. Walking into her office, she was greeted by her overly eager new hire.

"Good morning Mrs. Harris; I have your latte waiting for you in your office along with the lists of appointments and deadlines today."

"Please, Carol, call me Serena."

Annoyed, Serena shut her door and flopped down in her chair.

"Oh my, what do we have here today? Looking at her appointment book."

Scrolling down the list of to do's, she realized she was due at a white and diamond party. These were the benefits of an event planner. Party galore, and you can always bring a guest. On top of that, William was going to visit his mother for the weekend.

"How wonderful Nothing to do after having a great party. William will be gone; damn, after last night, why should I care." Serena said to herself.

Lost in her thoughts about William, she was interrupted by the slamming of her office door. It was her co-worker and her friend Brenda aka Beautiful. She was exactly that; she was tall, thin, tan skin with platinum blonde hair.

"Girrrl, what's up? She said, smiling."

"Nothing, just realizing I got a party to go to tonight. I have Nothing to wear and no diamonds. William is leaving today to go visit his mom for the weekend, and this new ass assistant is driving me nuts."

"Fire her ass then, or you could put her to work. You have a party to attend, and you need to pick up a dress. After all, it's business."

"Yes, I could, but diamonds are too expensive that's breaking the bank for a party."

"Have you learned anything from working with Manhattan's finest elite? You can go down to Smith Jeweler and rent for the night for around two hundred and fifty bucks!"

"Oh yeah, let's go, grab that assistant we are going shopping. Said Serena"

Walking along the Manhattan streets, Serena couldn't believe how far she had come for a woman her age. She was twenty-five and already making a six-figure salary a year. All of her blessings came from a local magazine back home in Illinois.

"Girl, I went on the chat line last night. Said Beautiful"

Broken from her thoughts down memory lane, Serena paused.

"You what!?"

"I went on the chat line last night."

"For what!?" asked Serena.

"To try something different to have fun."

"You act like you're ugly and can't find a date."

Look, it's the whole mystery behind it. You sit and chat with a man with a sexy voice, and Girl, the fun begins."

"So basically phone sex?"

Beautiful rolled her eyes as they entered the dress shop.

"No, not phone sex." Beautiful whispered, trying to avoid others from hearing their conversation.

"Then what? Replied Serena"

"So men get on there to talk because they are lonely. I mean, I met one guy off the system."

"Are you crazy!? You could have gotten your ass killed!"

"Lighten up. You should give it a try."

"Like hell, I do."

While Serena was shopping, Beautiful slipped the number in her purse while she was trying on dresses. Walking out, Serena twirled around, wearing a sequined white evening gown with a split that rested on her right thigh.

"What do you think? She asked, placing her hands on her hips.

"Very revealing looks like you're going to a party at the Playboy Mansion."

"Perfect! Grinned Serena"

The two ladies headed back to the office to conquer another day. Back at the office, Serena was tired of hearing the fifteen-year-old and her overly wealthy parents make demands for their fabulous sweet sixteen pink party.

"People and their damn demands. I could make pigs fly if I wanted. Serena thought to herself."

"So, do you think you can handle our daughter's party?"

"Everything is under control. Would you like my references?"

"No, thank you. I have heard great reviews, but if my daughter's party isn't the best, I can make your five-star rating a one star."

"Miss, I assure you of sheer perfection."

The family signed the contracts and left the office.

"Bitch." Serena muttered.

Serena paged her assistant.

"Yes, Serena?"

"Carol, call me a car for transportation to and from tonight's event, and put the thank you cards in the outgoing mail, please."

"I'm on top of that."

"Okay, thank you, Carol."

Serena headed home for the evening. William was on her mind all day. Over the last few months, the relationship was slowly falling apart. They were arguing more and having less sex. Serena just knew that William was all she ever wanted. She always blamed herself for the problems in their relationship and the suffering. Honestly, she tried everything to make him happy, and comfortable but what did she have to show for it.

Serena's Blackberry began to ring. It was William calling.

"Hello," answered Serena.

"Hey, I just wanted to let you know I was sorry for this morning. I'm getting ready to head out for the weekend. Did you need anything?"

"No, baby, I'm fine, enjoy your trip, tell your mother I said hi. Be safe, and I love you."

"I love you too, talk to you later."
