United-Prologue

     My name is Elexis and my life is great. I'm about to start my first year of high school with some amazing friends, we have our own house, we have 3 cars, I have my own car, my brothers are happy and healthy, so are my mom and dad. My life is perfect... for right now. I have a bad feeling that something bad is going to happen today.

     I'm about to walk out the door to go to the car so we can get to school. I put on my hoodie because I'm always cold, I grab my bag and then my mom stops me.

     "Hey mom I was about to go out to the car, you ok?" I ask because she was crying. I love my mom but she is very easy to read

     "Um... No you guys aren't going to school today. Can you go make sure your brothers are up? But you guys don't need your bags, just go get breakfast and get into the car please?" She says

     "Why? You ok mom?" I ask

     "Please don't ask questions!" She screams, she looks shocked

     "Just please listen to me Pumpkin" She used her nickname for me. She has only used it when she's sad

     "Alright mom" I hug her and go to the twin's room

     Brain: I wonder why she's sad

     Me: I don't know, let's just get the boys up

     "Boys you in there?" I'm out in front of the twin's room and I knock, their room is bigger than mine but they are two people compared to me

     "Yeah we are coming," Damion said, a second later the door opens and they come out

     "Where's your bag sis?" Joseph asked

     "We aren't going to school today, I don't know why so don't ask but leave your bags and go eat breakfast, ok," I say and they jet grumpy

     "But I wanted to go, we are starting middle school!" Joseph said

     "I don't know Jo but please just go while I go get Steven," I say and hug them. I go to Stevens room at the end of the hall, his room is even bigger than the twins

     "Stevan?" I knock

     "Yeah, I'm coming!" He says, he's a senior so it's his last year

     "Can I come in?" I ask

     "Sure," He says, I go in

     "Hey leave your bag we aren't going to school today," I say

     "Why?" He asks

     "I don't know but mom was distressed and sad," I say

     "Damn it, it's my last year and she wants to do this?" He said

     "Hey it's my first year of high school, this is not how I wanted to start it!" I said

     "True, come on sis" He said and he hooked his arm around my head. We walked down to the kitchen to see the twins are done eating and mom came running in.

     "Hurry up please!" Mom says. Me and Steven just grabbed a granola bar so we can leave We all get in the car

     "Hey, where's dad? I want to say bye first?" I ask

     "No! We are going now," she said. I always say bye to dad first. He works down at a restaurant about a mile down the road, he always walks. I'm the closest with him, he has taught me a lot. I hear mom mumbling a lot. We are in a van and I'm in the third row so I can't

hear but it sounds like she was muttering to herself. She didn't tell us where we were going until we pull into the hospital.

     "Hey, mom why are we at the hospital?" Steven asks

     "Please Steven, just follow me," Mom says as we get out. We head in and go to the front desk

     "Guys stay here for a second," Mom tells us by some chairs away from the front desk. She talks to the lady in the front while we sit down. She comes back within a few minutes

     "Come on guys we need to go downstairs," Mom says and we leave and go downstairs. We stop by a door that says Morgue

     Brain: Oh no

     Me: Shit

     Brain: Who died

     Me: I don't know, we'll find out

     "Ok guys can you wait out here while I go and talk to the lady," Mom says and points to the benches. Me and Steven on one and the twins sat in another. Until Jo wanted attention and came over and sat between us, naturally Damion followed so we were all squished on one bench. None of us were talking, just sitting there holding on to each other. Mom came back out with a wad of tissues and her face looked like she was crying

     "You ok mom?" I ask

     "Umm guys so I need to tell you guys something..."

     Brain: Do you realize who it is

     Me: Let her say

     Brain: She won't

     Me: Give her a second

     Brain: Mom tell us now

     Me: Tell us!

     "Dad died last night" She blurted out like she was forced to

     "What?" I ask

     "I don't want to repeat it Elexis!" Mom screams

     "Sorry" I whisper

     "No, I'm sorry. He did die guys. Let's go" Mom was hurrying us out and into the car. We got home and Mom went straight to her room without a word.

     Me and Steven worked on something for the twins for lunch since it's noon. We had some leftover mac and cheese from last night that...dad made. We sat at the table, no one talking, no one eating until it was too quiet and I didn't like it

     "Can someone talk please? I don't like the quiet." I ask

     "What do you want us to say?" Steven said

     "Anything... I don't care... I miss dad" I say and start crying

     "Me too..." Joseph says and comes over to hug me

     "Me too..."Damion says and comes to hug me too. We all just sit there and hug each other. I am getting cramped up so I get up and take our dishes, food not eaten. The twins went to their room and Steven went to his.

     Brain: You know what we should do

     Me: Yes, but I shouldn't the boys need me

     Brain: No they don't. You let your dad get killed, how are you supposed to protect them

     Me: You're right

     Brain: Of course I am. Now what are you going to do about it

     Me: Slit my wrists

     "Hey, you ok?" I hear Steven say

     "Holy shit you scared me!" I say

     "Sorry," He says with tears

     "You ok?" I ask

     "I asked you first."

     "I'm fine," I say

     "Elexis, I've known you your entire life I know when your lying. " Steven said

     "What do you want me to say... I was the closest to dad... You know this... Can you just... Leave me alone for a bit" I ask

     "Sure... You know where I am if you want to talk" Steven says

     Brain: Do it now!!

     I take one of the chef knives dad used to use and slit my wrist. I see blood instantly, I slit the other one. I fall to the floor and I hear running footsteps coming. I blackout before I saw who it was

     I wake up in water, I sit up and look around. This is where we used to go camping. I get up and start walking around the meadow. This brings back a lot of memories

     "Hey pumpkin" I hear a voice behind me and I turn around to see dad

     "Dad?!?!" I scream and run to him and hug him

     "Hey, pumpkin. I miss you" He says

     "I miss you too... Wait is this a dream?" I ask

     "Yes and no. Yes, it is a dream but this is also happening. I'm really here" He says

     "I'm so glad I could see you"

     "Me too but we don't have a lot of time... Why did you slit your wrists?" He asks

     "Because I can't live in a world without you in it. You're my best friend." I say as I start crying

     "Oh don't cry pumpkin... I'll always be with you... But you can't do that, your too important to the world." He says

     "Wait what do you mean dad?" I ask

     "I can't explain but you need to trust me. Whatever the world throws at you you can't die. Promise me you won't do something like this again." He says

     "I promise... But why? I'm not important to the world." I say

     "Awe pumpkin you still don't see yourself clearly. Trust me you are. Pumpkin I'm gonna have to leave now" He says

     "What no don't leave me yet!" I say

     "It's ok, we'll talk again. Just take care of yourself ok." He says and faded away.

     Then everything went black.. then A bright light

     "Dad?" I say hoping he's still there

     "Elexis! Oh, thank god you're awake!" I hear a voice, I look and it's Steven

     "Steven?" I ask

     "Yeah, I'm right here Pumpkin." He said

     "How long was I out?" I ask

     "About a day. Your lucky I got to you in time, otherwise, you would have died ." Steven said as he started crying

     "I'm sorry Steven. You probably haven't had time to freak out yet." I say

     "No, I haven't. Between mom freaking out, the boys being depressed, you cutting your wrists I have had no time to myself." He says

     "I'm sorry," I say

     "It's ok, I just wish you wouldn't have done this." He says

     "I know, but I won't do it again... trust me," I say

     "Why should I trust you now?" He asks

     "You'll think I'm crazy," I say

     "Oh, I already think you're crazy. We're beyond that... You can tell me anything" He says

     "Fine... I was dreaming... And I saw dad telling me to not do this again." I say

     "Yep, you're crazy... It was just a dream Elexis. But you should take that advice, don't do this again please" He says

     "Like I said... I won't" I say

     "Good, mom didn't come... It's just me and the twins... Do you want to see them? They've been asking to see you" He says

     "Sure. I could use their company" I say. I can use their company. Steven gets up and gets them. The door opens to the twins running up to me

     "Sissy!!!" Jo screams and runs to my bed, Damion runs behind him. They sit on both sides of me and we hug

     "Sissy, why did you do that?" Damion asks

     "Hmm, let's just say my mind made me do it," I say

     "My mind doesn't tell me to do that, why did yours?" Jo asks

     "Because of dad... How about if we make a deal... If your mind does tell you to do something bad to yourselves or someone else you come talk to me... ok?" I ask hoping to make sure they don't make the same mistake.

     "Deal." Both Jo and Damion say

     "Good... So Steven do you know when I can get out of here?" I ask

     "Well they said as long as you wake up we can leave but you'll have to go to therapy." He says

     "Ok," I say. Steven says and leaves. Me and the twins just sit there and hug each other We finally got home. We walked in and heard mom laughing

     Brain: Why is she laughing

     Me: I don't know but she shouldn't be laughing since dad just died

     Brain: maybe she's trying to make herself feel better

     Me: Maybe Then we hear a man laugh.

     We walk into the living room and we see mom and a guy kissing and almost about to start having you know what. Me and Steven shield the twins from seeing

     "Mom!?!" I scream

     "Oh hey, guys! I didn't hear you come in!" Mom says, something isn't right she's too happy. She gets up walked over to us and hugs me

     "How's my little troublemaker?" Mom asks. I could smell the mix of alcohol and pot.

     "Fine. Have you been drinking and smoking?" I ask

     "Never you mind that... come meet my new boyfriend!" Mom says and points to the man she was about to do it with. The man walks over and smiles at us.

     "Hello, I'm Caleb Howard." He says. I smell the alcohol and pot on him too. He gives me a crooked smile

     "Hi." We say

     "I'm gonna like this." Caleb says and gives me stalker eyes.

Brain: Our life is about to get complicated
