Two Peas In a Dumpster Fire

Dribble. Not the messy kind. An Entry to Press 53's April 53-Word Story Contest

By Paul StewartPublished 9 months ago 1 min read
Literal dumpster fire.

Dan and Marnie were conceived for one another. A mismatch made in hell. Like two peas in a dumpster fire, their love was blind, deaf, and driving without a license. He was obnoxious and took her to a motel for an hour of anticlimactic, earth grazing sex. She'd complain, but he was rich.

Thanks for reading!

Author's Notes: As part of my move to submit more of my work to publications and contests outside Vocal, in addition to stuff I publish here, I found and entered into Press 53's 53-Word Story Content. It is held every month and you are given a short, 53-word prompt.

I didn't win. But, will likely enter this month again, as it was fun, pushed my creative limits and is free to enter.

For April, the month I entered in for the first time, the prompt was this:

Our Prompt for April was: Meaning a blending of idioms, we get the word “malaphor” by combining “malapropism” and “metaphor.” To win this month, authors will want to make sure their stories stick out like a sore throat. We editors can’t wait to read through all the submissions, but we’ll burn that bridge when we come to it.

Write a 53-word story about a slip

You can find out more about the challenge befow.

While it may not be the best story ever written, I think it fits the brief.

So much conveyed in so few words! Awesome work, Paul :)

  • Ah, there it is, he's rich. Lol. Not surprised. I'm so sorry you didn't win 🥺

  • Too rich! A great one, Paul.

This is hilarious, Paul! You had me with two peas in a dumpster fire and sealed the deal with Their love was blind, deaf and driving without a license!

  • And it was fun to read, though probably a bit close to home for several (thinking any of the "Real Housewives" here).

I can't believe that was only 53 words! Damn. This was brill.

Good job on this short, short story of two people made in hell who love in a way.

Good one and good job on such a short, short story. Thinking about trying to write these for Vocal. Going to try one now.

As per my story, I am sure I commented after I read this, but alas it appears to have been flushed away. So I say this, I have also been on various other sites lately, trying my hand elsewhere. Yet I will always return to Vocal. This challenge sounds intriguing

Well-wrought! Malapropism or not, this is an apt description of some real-life situations I've seen, and a great display of your chops!

I have doing the same, venturing out of Vocal. Trying new platforms and challenges. This one is new to me. Although I believe I will always be a part of Vocal
