Trigger Warning: Violence; Bullying

Who wants to look like everyone else? That's so boring. Troy thought to himself as he readied himself for school.

Troy considered himself blessed; at least as an American teen, he wasn't being hunted for his limbs because of their perceived "good luck," like other teens who looked like him that lived on the continent of Africa in the country of Tanzania.

And despite what Troy's classmates said about him, when he looked in the mirror, he never saw a "powdery red-eyed freak" or "a tumbleweed-headed ghost boy." Instead, he saw an albinistic stud with a heart of gold.

Awesome!!! I loved where this story went and how Troy didn’t care about what people said. Great job conveying the message behind this story. 💖

A masterful story of embracing who you are. Complex and deep.

I appreciated how Troy was able to embrace his uniqueness, but was so sad that it was in the face of possible bullying. And the thought that there are places in this world that hunt and harm for this, heartbreaking. What a powerful story for so many reasons, well done.

  • Such a lovely story! I agree normal is boring! Great job! ❤️

You’ve combined a story and a terrible horror within this piece. And revealed the brutality directed at people just due to the amount of melanin in their skin encompasses the entire Globe

Wait, are they really hunted for their limbs? My ex is from Liberia, and he shared with me that albinos are kinda shunned there… and have to be careful because the sunlight is so direct. But I had no idea there were countries where others would harm them. I wholeheartedly agree with your protagonist—who wants to look like everyone else?

The strange things that happen in this world. So many awful tales, still we forget how lucky we are to be where we are. Still we see others with eyes which see, yet are blind. Will we ever see beyond ourselves. Words to ponder.
