They should have listened.

Hey, I'm not a bad person, okay, I just wanted what I was owed, what they promised.

Everyone needs to eat, me included.

People LIE, and I hate it.

I told them they'd be sorry if they reneged, it's not like they weren't warned.

Even though I could have asked for more (I'm the best at what I do) I didn't.

Didn't believe me, did they, didn't believe that I could punish them by taking something even more valuable.

Probably should have thought that through, shouldn't they?

I know what's most precious to normal folk, narcisstic as they are.

Parents, the normal ones anyway, would mostly rather chew off their own leg than lose any of their precious offspring.

Easy, to pretend I drove the school bus and trick the brats aboard.

Remember me, next time you're tempted not to pay a talented working man his due.

Oh, I travelled a long, long way to help the people of that town!

Faithless fools, fibbing, tight-fisted, penny-pinching fuckwits, quite frankly.

Heaven knows I prefer the so-called dumb beasts, even the ones some thing are dirty, sly flea infested, or disease-bearing.

And I say that even though I'm paid a pretty penny to rid places of those same creatures.

Maybe it's a career, a lifetime even, of observing them, learning about them, coming to respect them.

Lying here, bound, the little demons hitting and kicking me until I pass out...

I wonder how long until my mind cracks, like my bones, how long until theirs does the same, who will go mad first...
No matter; even as I have lost, I still did it, still did what I threatened to do, so that Never is when the little ones will go home, and Never is when their parents will see them again.
