Monkeys and the Unexpected Consequences

Monkey Mask

Saundari Nona was an Anuradhapura resident for nearly a year.

It was a very beautiful area. It was a project she had, in other words, with her husband. Acceded to that, she also got a beautiful small house from the company, where her husband worked. Saundari Nona henceforth lived in that house very happily.

But that happiness didn't last more than a few days.

What was that in the pot?

Monkey trouble!

Monkey trouble?

Yes! Monkeys had taken over this house.

An enormous panda was dancing on the roof.

The trees weren't bearing any fruit.

The coconuts were gone.

The trees were also shedding their leaves as well as their fruits.

What angered her the most was that the plants she had brought from Colombo and planted were gone.

All of that, let's just say, doesn't matter. Look how beautiful they are, catch them, they look at Miss Soundari from far away.

Its a bit like saying: 'If you want to come to a fight, we will show up as well.'

The husband didn't have time to tussle with the monkeys. That was enough work.

One piece of advice after another poured in from Miss Soundari's friends to help her get out of the monkeys' den.

'Set off firecrackers!' said one friend.

But how to do that? Even other innocent animals in the vicinity get frightened of flourish when these firecrackers explode. A year later, Miss Soundari's dog had an accident: it was frightened by the noise of firecrackers and ran away, never to be found. How sad did the family feel that day?

That won't work! Miss Soundari said.

''Then build a catapult and frighten them off!'' Another friend said.

''Can you hurt them like that?'' Saundari Nona was shocked.

"Who told them to shoot? Shoo them and scare them away.'' The friend also did not speak.

But Saundari Nona wasn't immune to that either. What if the 'sword hit the rabbit and hit the bush' hit the monkey instead!

Then, one of the friends had a brilliant idea.

'Hang a big monkey mask. Then the monkey will be afraid!’

Not a bad idea, Saundari Nona thought.

Now let's find a monkey mask!

Everyone was looking for a monkey mask in the whole village, Saundari Nona She even looked in the town. Mhu! The work didn't work.

"Find me a big monkey mask!" Miss Saundari called each and every one of her friends!

Sure enough! Finally, the mask was found. One of these was Miss Saundari's relative, Doniya, who had come in search of a monkey mask.

'Today's business is good....ha ha ha....' Miss Saundari quickly hung the mask on a tree.

Did it work?

Well, the monkeys didn't come this way, they ravaged everything on the other side.

Miss Saundari placed the mask on a different tree. Then the monkey herd moved to another side.

I needed a few more masks, haha! Miss Saundari thought.

But what should I do now? Don't do it the way it is! Miss Saundari thought!

Okay! You’re coming in with one idea.

I heard the monkeys making a fuss from a distance.

Right after all, the time is the time. I quickly stuck on my monkey mask!! She swung the kitchen door open with a bang and jumped out. 'If you go the opposite way, it will jump that way,' Miss Saundari reasoned.

As she put it, the monkey troop became slightly concerned. But what was this weird beast that had clung to trees for millions of years and suddenly took to walking? They must have thought.

They waited at least five seconds at the other end. Then the strange animal appeared, and they gaped in recognition looking as if they thought, good. They started coming forward.

And then the milk-sucking dogs ran away. She wears a coconut tree, Miss Saundari!

''The sound of Miss Soundari screaming, the kitchen door being banged shut, the lady who lives next door heard it!

OMG, how is Miss Soundari doing?

It's not that bad. She sprained her leg trying to run and it is a bit stiff! That's all! Even when you put a bit of oil on it, it will not go away.
