My training paid off today.

Opportunity presented itself during bingo. I feigned sleep, a small parcel of drool on my lip. Audrey needed help again and I made a dash for the unguarded door. My stick helped and I always wear shoes now so I'm ready.

I'd secreted a carrier bag of essentials in the bathroom by the automatic doors. I waited for Mavis on Reception to get a drink and then, I went for it!

Nearly got beyond the car park this time.

"Come on, Houdini. Let's get you back inside."

Ironic nickname. I think Houdini had more success.

Another Drabble today, again based on a prompt:

Your protagonist plans their escape from a retirement home.

I've not kept wholly to the prompt, going my own way but I hope you like the story of The Escapologist.

The prompt came from this site:

Can you believe that in 10 days, there will just be 100 to go?

What I'm saying to you? Fantastic, wonderful, and well-written, I feel these words are Old and odd

  • Excellent!🤩 The title snagged me & didn’t disappoint 💙.

Brevity is no threat to your wit! I was sufficiently captivated to lament that poor Houdini remained bound, and to hope that the next clever scheme will succeed!

I found myself rooting for him even though I knew I shouldn’t…Great work, Rachel! You really make these 100 word micros look easy

This was fab.... it's also exactly what my great aunt used to do. I really admired her breaks for freedom. Her brother put her in a ghastly place and it still frustrates me that some of these nursing homes can be so grim. Anyway... this was excellent.

In his mind, he was running when in fact he was moving at a snail’s pace. We will all be there. Great funny little story, Rachel.

Wow 110 to go. You've nailed it...you Gerard and LC too. Loved this anarchic bit of funness. I'd totally wanna be like this badass and try to escape lol! Well done.
